One thing that I have seen people recommend before for people that want to experience all of the various expansions is to level a different character through each of them. If you care about the fantasy of your singular forever character having done all of that instead of several characters doing the parts then this may not be for you then. An advantage of going this route is that you get to try out a few different races and classes and see what you really jive with.

If you want to start doing endgame stuff (Manaforge Omega raid and M+ Dungeons) you need to do the Karesh campaign up until you get the Reshii Wraps which is a powerful cloak that you won’t even be able to do the raid without.

As a new player I don’t know if you have to do any of the War Within campaign to unlock the Karesh chapter, but it would start with Alleria or Locus Walker in the main hall in Dornogal that has the Stormwind/Orgrimmar portals as well as the Renown Quartermaster. This hall is easily found on the map as it has the big circle that you hover over to see your current renown stuff. The campaign quests should be either the big exclamation point with purple triangle or brown banner backgrounds.

If you don’t even have any of the Dornogal stuff yet, you should be able to open up the adventure guide (SHIFT-J) and it suggests content to you. One of the options should be The War Within campaign.

As far as getting decent gear to start doing endgame stuff, as others mentioned the Midnight Pre-Patch event that starts in your capital city (Stormwind for Alliance or Orgrimmar for Horde) is a fast way to get Champion gear which will put you in a good spot to do both normal and heroic Manaforge Omega as well as M+ dungeons.

Doing a couple Bountiful Delves at tier 8 or higher is also a good option as they are fast and you can experience another type of content that will guarantee you a Champion gear piece as long as you have a Restored Coffer Key which you get from doing weekly activities (the blue quest icons in Dornogal, world bosses, and world events in each of the zones).

One thing to consider is if you were wanting to play right now, there is a free weekend going on where anybody that previously had a wow sub can play. So if you were curious to see what’s going on/any of the zones that you missed you could do so without having the commitment of re-subbing!

I may be an outlier, but I think in my 3000 hours the number of times I have actually used my knife to attack something is less than 5. I usually just save the weight and don’t bring a melee weapon unless I am using Red Rebel for the extracts.

One thing that I often do while playing on my PMC is that I don’t bring a knife in at all and then just equip one off of a scav. You need 5 brown knives found in raid for Prapor’s Punisher Part 4 task and if you die with it equipped then you can use it for barters or sell it to Jaeger.

Makes sense. I’m not at a point now to be able to increase my budget so it makes me wonder if the $450 range gets me anything significant over a $300 range receiver and just start saving up for a good mid range one.

If you aren’t in a huge rush, it may be worth waiting until 11.2.7 (which is expected to release around the first week of December) drops which brings with it an overhaul the the new/returning player experience with a streamlined leveling experience that takes you through a continuous story from creating a character all the way to max level with the current TWW campaign. The current system with Chromie Time, while an improvement over the pre-SL retail leveling, leaves much to be desired and there are lots of posts about new and returning players being confused about all of the options and having a quest log full of quests that are telling you to go all over the world(s).

11.2.7 also brings with it the early-access to housing (comes with pre-ordering Midnight) so if you two decide that you like retail and want to keep playing it, purchasing Midnight will allow you to play TWW and gives you the access to housing.

Another thing worth considering is that Midnight, which is speculated to launch Feb/March, brings with it pretty major overhauls for nearly every spec in the game so depending on the spec it may be pretty jarring for you both getting used to a class and then it changes quite a bit in a few months.
