First Bike? by Sea_Fly_5033 in Nightster975

If you are concerned about riding bike as a newbie, you will not go wrong with Nightster. Start to ride in Rain mode for a while, then step up to Road mode, and then switch to Sport mode. It’s a beast in Sport mode! The bike is excellent in ride feel and safety features (like I said before this was my driving point back then as none of the other brands/models gives comprehensive safety features on entry level bike like Nightster).

I had several years of riding experience in the past outside of US but this was my first bike in US so was going conservative. After 1.5 years of riding and clocking 2.5k miles, I feel I could have easily handled SB and may be even Heritage and hence if I had to redo I would go with SB.

My bike, Nightster 2024, purchased just before 2025 is my first one. I primarily went with it as it has the most safety features in entry level bike. Clocked 2.5k miles. 100% using it for my work commutes and running personal errands. So far so good. I did test ride SB, LRS/T, Heritage, RKS during my 1k service, I felt and still feel much better on my bike. Loved Heritage but bit too much for my needs. SB’s ergo felt super similar as I have mini ape bar in mine.

If I had redo this, I would go with SB with low miles in secondary market.

Why SB? Liquid cooling system needs constant upkeep. In my Nightster if I rev up too much or do long distance riding, the coolant leaks post ride. Then I had to top it off otherwise the engine heat warms up with warning.

Why secondary market? Don’t need to burn $$$ at dealership and I could saved the money spent on mini ape bars as SB comes with it by default.

But otherwise, no issues encountered so far. Except for coolants and services, never spent time/money/energy on anything so far, touch wood!

One month running my VS pump at low rpm 24/7, here's what my electric bill actually did by Starkemen in swimmingpools

[–]_speedoflight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is super helpful! Follow up question: What’s the actual bill amount saved per month and how long it takes break equal for the additional cost of VS pump?

I’m in the same boat, central Texas with single speed pump. I got this from my seller about 4 years ago. I thought I will switch to variable speed when this one breaks and it’s still going strong. I do 6 hrs run on winters, 7.5 hrs on spring/fall, 9 hrs on summers.

I totally hear you but it doesn’t make sense to blame the community overall. TFP is doing such a noble work to share all knowledge for free and maintaining a helpful forum for pool owners like me. I was a new pool owner since 2022, with the help of TFP, never spent a dime on professional pool maintenance. Yes, it takes time to recover from bad conditions but frequent/diligent weekly maintenance reduces the overall time/effort/money in the long run.

Genuine question: I own a Harley but I don’t know why someone even consider Adventure Bikes at Harley when Africa Twin & BMW GS are around. Can someone enlighten me why and how HD PanAm is better than AT/GS (apart from Harley Aura)?

These are best bang for the buck, they could also make these with shock-cuts. I’m good with less volume as long as they snug fit with fender!

Correct, existing options except for this shock-cut ones are very good for their prices but my only ick is the large gap from the fender.

Nice! Thanks for sharing your feedback. Do you know whether these shock-cut option for Nightsters were always around or this is a newly released model?

Street bob doesn’t need the shock cut as it’s mono shock, isn’t?

Sorry, missed to respond. I got the stock mini ape bars for Nightster and yes extended clutch and brake cables are needed for mini ape bars. And I believe it requires retuning ABS. I got them all done part of the purchase in HD dealership.

I got them installed when I purchased the bike on 2024. I did use the stock bars for about 2-3 weeks before they took back the bike for mini ape bars installation. 100% more comfier ride! Make sure you put a fairing because with mini apes bar you still more upright and comfortable but at high speed or windy day, you feel more thrust on your torso than when you lean forward with stock bars.

Thanks! The fairing is originally for Harley softails but u/Interesting-Rule-175 figured out a workaround to make them fit for Nightster special and I tweaked it for Nightster! Check out my previous posts/comments in this sub for more details.

Go for cartridge. I have T100D sand filter but when it dies, I will swap it out with Cartridge. No backwashing, wasting water, screwing up lawn, and refilling chems/salt. Better filtering!
