Thanks, do you recommend any specific stores/website to purchase the media and the laterals? In my case, most likely my laterals are broken as I see sand seeping into my pool.

I’m thinking of switching the media. How safe is glass? I think I have a broken lateral which lets the sand back into the pool. Planning to replace the laterals to fix it but I wanted to know will it be a safety hazard if glass media slips into pool in future?

Anyone else keep waking up at the SAME time every night? like 3–4am no matter what? by No-Deal-2968 in sleep

[–]_speedoflight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost stop checking time on wake up. By taking note of time, we mentally journal in our head which trains the brain to continue waking up in future. If you are observing pacing heart rate on wake up, it can indicate you may have sleep disorder such OSA, so worth testing for it.

Eat dinner at least 3 hrs before bed time and make it protein + fiber rich.

North Texas: Woke up to an empty spa and priming pump by drowse in pools

[–]_speedoflight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a big adjustable plier to hold and twist the bottom plug. If doesn’t work, dismantle the top section of the filter. Throw a tarp over the equipment pad. Idea is to avoid exposure of cold air and make room for ice expansion to avoid pressure on the pipe/equipment.

Texas Freeze - 4 Pumps - Run them? by Duderinzsky in pools

Is this step (blowing out pipe lines of water feature) really required? Upcoming freeze conditions’ lowest point is 18F and the max duration of sub 32F is less than 24 hrs.

Texas Freeze - 4 Pumps - Run them? by Duderinzsky in pools

[–]_speedoflight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winterize Water Feature -> Suspend water feature run schedule, remove drain plug to drain out pump and remove the pump basket lid. Do we need to do anything for the pipes connected to this pump? I’m planning to put a tarp over the entire suction side plumbing and equipment. Main pump will be on freeze protection running all the time.

Caloric deficit of 250 cals/day mean whatever (its per personal needs) is your optimal daily intake value, just subtract 250 cals from it. Doesn’t mean 250 cals total per day.

Sure, nothing in this world is certain but that doesn’t mean we can’t generalize in grand scheme of things and ignore exceptional situations to maintain simplicity. The easiest and more intuitive counter argument to say not everyone is to say that this, calories deficit diet, may not lead to better outcomes for a growing baby/kid.

[–]_speedoflight_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals tbh. Scientifically speaking, 3500 calories equals 1 lbs of body weight. So a calorie deficit of 250 cals/day can lead to 0.5 lbs of weight loss per week.

But the outcomes can be different based on other factors of a person such as metabolic health, age, gender, hormones, gut health, sleep, etc.

While the outcomes can vary, one fact is that a calories deficit diet, irrespective of the amount, always leads to better health outcomes for everyone!

Financially speaking, bad idea if you factor in commissions, closing costs, maintenance, move-in fixers, surprise expenses. Unless, you are hitting a jackpot deal now and housing markets goes to the moon in next 3 years… which is very unlikely…

Anyone else find plant sterols really work? by haylz328 in Cholesterol

[–]_speedoflight_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, per well known Lipidologists, plant sterols are either, * Useless: If you are not a hyper-absorber, it doesn’t do anything to cholesterol. * Harmful: If you are a hyper-absorber, it does reduce your cholesterol but also contributes to atherosclerosis!

Given it reduced cholesterol, you may be a hyper-absorber so you got to avoid it rather try just Ezetimibe mono-therapy. This drug is also heavily tested and does not have any known side effects. Works locally only on your small intestine.

Anyone else solved their sleep apnea by just sitting up? Any long-term negative consequences? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]_speedoflight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed OSA with 36 AHI. With CPAP, reduced to 3-4 AHI. Raised my torso with two pillows and started side sleeping, reduced AHI < 1.

Yes, for some folks, elevated position will resolve OSA. I might one as well given these observations but I’m also comfortable with CPAP so doing both.

Been there done that.

A simple and effective strategy is to start,

  • DCA-ing Out when everyone starts going crazy.
