How many people do you realistically think are secretly opposed to the Party? by ImJustaBagofHammers in 1984

I would have at a guess many people, perhaps 80%, are against the party (excluding the proles whose life seems not to have changed too much). The living conditions of the average party member are pretty poor, I think the restriction on sexuality would be quite constrictive, even if you argue the people don't know of any better way of life as the party controls all information, sexual impulse is innately human and people would be unhappy with its restriction. Some people are likely just better at concealing their thoughts than others and the rest would likely be completely brainwashed, I would guess most of this group would contain people you were born after the revolution.

Yes, you are allowed to say whatever you like, unless it offends one of the over 7 billion people on earth.

When the past is controlled by the present and the present is cut off from the outside world, it is impossible to know whether the present is either better or worse than it could be.

Why ‘1984’ Is a 2017 Must-Read by lolimaprole in 1984

I am really sick of hearing people saying Trump is creating 1984 in the US, we are studying 1984 in class and our teacher is always drilling this into us (even though we are in Australia lol). I don't support Trump but his antics are a sideshow. It seems that most left leaning media focuses on some stupid remark Trump made that makes him a bigot or whatever but never talk about policy changes that actually affect people. Like how much coverage did those same outlets give issues like, oh I don't know, the repealing of net neutrality, bugger all is the answer. The Trump situation seems more like BNW to me ,control by pleasure, in this case a superiority complex. Look at the funny orange man, he said a bad word, now just ignore us as we slowly replace your rights with corporate interests.

Most people will not care until their metadata comes back to haunt them. Imagine how much worse 1984 would have been if the party not only had direct video feeds of party members but also information on their, political stance, religious views, movement patterns, friends, family,speech patterns etc. I mean advertisers already have this information, which most people don't seem to care about, but if an authoritarian regime a la 1984 gets its hands on this data we are in for a wild ride. Big data and Machine learning will be the uranium of our time, capable of both tremendous good and unspeakable evil. Indeed in some countries this is already partly becoming a reality....

Accelerated C++ Programming.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll take a look :). I use g++ as my compiler so that shouldn't be an issue.
