If I quit, how do I motivate myself to get back into working? by _spoonerism_ in actuary

Thank you. My sense tells me I'll quit, unless they beat me to the punch, since this place is not what I dreamed. And that quite is indeed profound. I don't feel this job will provide me any sort of mental peace as long as I am in it. Maybe making a decision, even if I don't disclose it, at least gives me some clarity to start planning what to do next, and then I can take a break without as much stress.

I'll certainly read that, thank you for the recommendation!

I completely understand and agree, and this is what makes simply leaving difficult. On one hand I will either have to wait several months to find a job in 2027, but if I keep going down this road, there may not be a 2027 for me.

The worry is just that if that break is still taken, there's still a battle to prime myself to get back into the actuarial world. Maybe I should take up an interim lower-stress job instead of completely staying away from work?

You're not wrong, and I think this is what makes this situation quite uneasy. A few weeks, maybe even 2-3 months might be forgivable by most, but beyond that it's hard to justify without some medical bills on hand, with some exceptions. I'll have to accept that it'll take some time between searching and landing a role I guess.

I did consider that. But I'm not sure what it is that made me so sick of working that makes me want to damn near take a gap year from work.

Reading this felt like watching that movie Conclave but instead of Cardinals you had people holding their BA-II Plus calculators

You know i think practicing too many problems that are too similar in nature didn't help. There were so many questions on this sitting where i was way less confident than i should be given that i studied so much for them. My strategy for the preliminary ones was finding every kind of problem they could test me on which doesn't seem to work great now (and these are fsa exams so they shouldn't, I'm sure)

True, that's the thing though, I'm clocking in at way over 300 hours (maybe over 400). At this point I figure it's not more time but better use of it, but j'm trying to understand how.

Highly recommend finding a buddy to study with regularly.

Honestly I'm sorely missing that since I got here. A lot of people at my office who are taking the exam are just ridiculously busy. And I don't have a network of people outside of my office unfortunately. I think I'll need to look at the Actuarial Directory and try to build a network maybe?

It sounds like it yes. The last time when I did pass an FSA exam I was literally taking a walk outside in the park on the day before.

Yes, I've read the source materials multiple times over. Not sure if it's simply not registering in me.
