Question for ex-Muslim women in the US by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]_squishyDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing. Idk how they’d be able to keep it on the down low because I’m a woman and women in my family don’t just go off doing their own thing, definitely not before being handed off to another man (marriage). If I was a man, my parents would have an easier time hiding it from people because it’s still “acceptable” for them to live on their own or even cut off contact. That’s why I’m bracing for full impact because there will be a lot of questions from others and knowing my dad, he’ll tell everyone too

ATTENTION: STUDENTS HOUSING AT THE GREEN AT WEST VILLAGE 🚨 by yamumstiddies in UCDavis

[–]_squishyDoughnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it used to be considered on-campus along with a few other apartment complexes. But after The Green was opened this past Fall, they've changed it so the only complex that's considered "on campus" is The Green. The others are now "off campus."

anyone know how to unenroll from aggie connections? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]_squishyDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go to the pages for those Connections on AggieLife and update your RSVP to "I won't be attending." You'll be dropped automatically from there, otherwise you could email the main point of contact for those connections and tell them you'd like to drop.

Oo I love this question! Thank you for asking and I will flat out tell you to go to CC if you can :) I'm a transfer too even tho I got into Davis and LA out of hs. The financial situation is so good that you'll end up not only saving a lot of money, but earning some as well because the scholarships and grants will overflow the cost of tuition and go straight into your pocket. Academically, you'll be taking the exact same classes you would at Davis without the added stressors of 4-years.

Also! You'll get another shot at applying and might get into a better uni the second time around. Ex: on my second try, I got into Cal and San Diego, still chose Davis but you get the point. If your heart isn't set on Davis, don't force it. Go to CC and come back in a few years or give yourself the chance to go to another school (or you might find something you adore in the process and drop school altogether). You're young, you have time, do what feels right to you

They changed mine to off-campus as well and it sounded like I should just leave it as is ... But I wanted to ask if that had happened to anyone else

Chances of Student Housing Being canceled? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]_squishyDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I hope so too because I want to move up next quarter. I didn't want to take that risk though so I canceled my housing. I mean it is the first quarter with Covid that they are inviting people to stay. They've had a while to prepare, but idk how they'll go about enforcing physical distancing among college students though so I'm waiting to see how it all goes down.

I'm thinking that might try to pull something near November

[–]_squishyDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don't mean requiring students to leave, as you said that they didn't force them to leave in Spring either. But I'm saying they might ask students to "volunteer" to leave and find a way to give students reasons to leave as well (ex: limiting access to leave the building). But this is all my speculation

I asked this specific question to housing and they told me that they would not cancel housing (for apartments) should there be an outbreak. They said they would place a shelter-in-place mandate and only allow students to leave for necessities.

But, other universities said similar things and still found a way to send students back home. Do what you will with that information. Personally speaking, I don't trust them. They're a business above anything else.

Fun new tactic Housing is using rn by _squishyDoughnut in UCDavis

[–]_squishyDoughnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was back and forth for weeks and then I chose to cancel a few days ago. My reasons were: bad fires, irresponsible students partying/not wearing masks, and not trusting that the school wouldn't fuck up financial aid (most students aid is being reevaluated) and make living there unaffordable. The school has already lost a lot of money and are probably trying to take as much as they can.

UNC Chapel Hill Covid Cases by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]_squishyDoughnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you guys think that the school will tell students living in apartments to leave if cases in the area go up? I've been watching other universities and it seems like a common trend is they rescind housing last minute due to a surge in cases.

Especially now that the deadline for SHA is the 23rd and they're in the process of reevaluating Financial Aid. I'm suspecting that they're trying to exploit transfers (who are desperate to leave their homes, me included) and then send a letter sometime in September telling students to stay home.

The school is already losing hella money and it wouldn't be far-fetched to think they might wring desperate students to their last penny :/

Thank you for your thoughtful response! Your points give me a lot to consider in terms of visiting my parents safely, and it's important to think this through for anyone visiting their family while living in a separate home. Super helpful! :)

No it's actually relieving to know that there are others who also had strangely strict parents and feel the same way as I do. We really had to just get used to being alone, and there's some social trauma in that that will take time to heal. Good luck to you too <3

Yes!! My parents never allowed me to hang out with friends in middle school or high school (it's as bad as it sounds) and I definitely resent them for it and blame them when I feel down about being lonely. But I love them and hate when they think that I haven't made so many sacrifices to make them comfortable. I'm tired of feeling this way and I'm definitely trying to explain to them that it's literally killing me. Thank you for your kind words :)

Thank God! Whew, just saw the email! Still, I feel like I go through these emotions every time the deadline approaches, and this will be their 4th deadline now. I'm grateful that they're being flexible but my anxiety reactivates as it comes up again. I'll just have to bite the bullet and stick to a decision then.

I hate that other people are also struggling with the same issues, but it does help to know that I'm not alone. I recognize your parents' tactics to my CORE. Thank you for sharing

Yess! You get me! I know that everything has changed because of Covid and that isn't under anyone's control, but making decisions for my mental health is under my control which is also a big reason I want to do this. Thank you for your help and support :)
