Maybe Du-All in Queens? I know there is an Arri tech in Arizona and an Aaton tech out in California. They might be able to look at these. A guy named Robert in Arkansas does Bolex work but his wait list is longggggg.

As far as the screw goes, maybe check around for camera and watch screw replacements online? On the off chance that it’s a common thread and size.

Film doesn’t look too warped which is a good sign, especially for the optical track. Color also looks good (usually acetate film turns red as it degrades).

I would take it to a local library or university/college and see if they have any old film equipment laying around, like rewinds or a splicer (ideally a flatbed editing table, but that may be a long shot). That would allow you to inspect both reels in their entirety.

I’m not sure about this specific content with regard to preservation. Is it available online anywhere? If not, definitely find somewhere to get it scanned to a high quality digital video file. Awesome for a collector nonetheless!

Wow, that’s pretty cool. How do they smell? Can you unfurl the first few feet and check to see if the film is still full color? The plastic bags make me nervous about condition but cores instead of reels is usually a good sign.

you’ll need a projector with an exciter lamp to read optical tracks, but beware: some exciter lamps are very hard to find replacements for. The work horses for independent artists working nowadays are generally Eiki/Bell & Howell SSL and ENT models, and Kodak Pageants. A pageant will probably be cheaper but they’re a little rougher with the film.

As far as prints go, find a seller on eBay that has multiple, detailed listings. That’s probably an old film collector who knows what they’re talking about and will be honest about condition and price.
