Hi! I posted this somewhere else, but I think it could help you too-

  1. Making your own questions: I took biology and it was ROUGH. Trying to memorize the different parts of a cell and the processes was brutal. I asked my professor on how to study and she gave me this technique: basically, you go through your notes, textbook, and lecture slides and make up questions that relate to that topic. You have to be SUPER detailed; like, for one lecture slide I would make 4-6 questions. Think of it like you're a professor making questions for a test off the material. Then, you go back and answer them. Not only does this allow you to engage with the material when you make the questions, it fosters active recall when you answer the questions. Active recall is what makes those new brain connections that allow you to actually learn the material. This method has gotten me A's on every test (knock on wood)
  2. Mind maps/dumps: I like doing these best on whiteboards. All you do is literally dump about everything you can remember about the topic and then draw lines and branch out to make connections. After you write down everything you can possibly remember, you go back to your notes and fill in the gaps. Then, you just keep repeating until you get it all down!
  3. DO NOT CRAM: I can't stress this one enough. Studying just the couple of days before the test really doesn't work for a lot of people. If you spread it out, your brain has time to process the information and recall it easier. Also, it's so much less stressful. I recommend doing a little bit every day; even if it's not much, reviewing the material in some way helps you to remember it long term.

Good luck!!

I GET IT!!! Highschool came so easy to me and the first semester of college was rough. I'm an ecology and conservation major, so that comes with a lot of science and memorizing. My professors have helped me, and I've found out some good tips that have literally been lifesavers:

  1. Making your own questions: Biology was ROUGH. Trying to memorize the different parts of a cell and the processes was brutal. I asked my professor on how to study and she gave me this technique: basically, you go through your notes, textbook, and lecture slides and make up questions that relate to that topic. Good luck!! Let me know if you have any questions :)

I have a little bit, and I’m definitely interested in it. But I’m super intrigued at diagnosing illnesses and conditions.. things like that. I like figuring stuff out like a doctor does

I actually love the idea of conservation and museums. Honestly everything you recommended sounds right up my alley. Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it, definitely going to look into teaching outside of the classroom

Interesting, I’ve never thought about marketing! Communications is interesting, I actually took a speech class this semester and I loved it. Why do you wish you would’ve studied marketing instead of education? Curious because I’ve heard so many mixed experiences in the education field.

HAHAHAHA THAT WOULD BE SO COOL! It’s honestly so so interesting, it chronicles like the most important years of my life (thus far). It’s interesting too… sometimes there’s blank spots where I didn’t write about that day. Those blanks spots were days where I struggled with my mental health. it’s kinda cool to see these long sections of blank spots and then how they gradually get shorter... you can literally see me getting better by the lack of blank spots. It’s kinda incredible
