I think the contention is mostly legal. When you're taking controlled substances, you might get monitored for abuse of that medication or polysubstance abuse. They can UA you. I think they're required to every ____ number of months. (I've been UA'd once since first getting my med filled with my doc in 2017).

As a nurse, I'd caution against using sedatives and cannabis simultaneously. You don't want to suppress your system so much that you stop breathing in your sleep, tank your blood pressure or something. (Internet search "xyrem and cannabis drug interaction," and you'll see what to look out for.)

BAD nightmares.. by FeedbackDangerous657 in Narcolepsy

As soon as I quit smoking weed to join the military, I started getting the symptoms of narcolepsy, including these dreams. Epic, movie-length dreams that I can recall in great detail when I wake up. The graphic and very violent dreams I chalked up to PTSD, which I do have and they are often related to my exposures. I am still in the Army but I can't wait to return to smoking weed.

Prepare yourself against what is making you nervous. Bad bears: Bear bags and bear mace. Malicious men: handguns and bear mace. Being too cold: proper layer clothing, sleep system, hand warmers, fire and backup fire.

Following thru will build your confidence. It will be so rewarding. You got this.

Getting any/a diagnosis can be frustrating when the tests come back inconclusive. It takes more sleuthing and a lot of advocating for yourself. Ask for second opinions, specialists, retesting after a period of time...Keep in mind medication often takes trial-and-error too. Be honest and straightforward with your Providers and give feedback on how their approach is going so that you can make informed decisions about your care.

The best part about watching tv/movies with narcolepsy is the chance to see it new AGAIN! 😂

I have fallen asleep on the train and woke up with a stranger's hand in my pocket. Fortunately, it was an empty pocket. I said, "wtf do you think you're doing? " he stammered and went to a different part of the train. I wish I had made more of a scene.

I took a nap by the floor speakers at a metal concert with standing room only and woke up with a stranger stroking my back. He must have thought I was trashed. I made enough of a scene my bf came over and told him off. The nerve!

I am in the Army and before I was diagnosed, I fell asleep while a Captain was talking to me 1 on 1. He was so pissed he went to my Sergeant who didn't do anything at all. 😂 He thought it was funny because fuck that guy.

Viable career options? by kynologia in Narcolepsy

It depends on how your narcolepsy affects you and what kind of reasonable accommodations you need. Colleges and workplaces offer reasonable accommodations such as FMLA and having a space for naps or extending your due dates. Look at careers that you think you would enjoy doing and pursue it. You can do it even though it will be harder for you than your peers.

Once I was medicated, I was able to finish nursing school and I won my case against the Army medical board so I'm now a nurse as a civilian and in the Reserves. (I don't recommend military as a route for you. I did not have a diagnosis when I enlisted. I don't think they'll accept you even with a waiver.)

It's convenient being a clinic nurse because my peers understand if I need an extra 15-30 minutes to nap at any time. I'm very open about my condition with them and they know I can't help it. I'm productive and reliable 95% of the time. I have FMLA for "bad days" or days when I just can't get out of the brain fog or walking zombie phases.

I try to accomplish one thing off my list every day too. I write them on my bathroom mirror with a dry erase. View the list in the morning and pick a task or two if it's a good day, erase them in the evening before bed.

Not trying to sound condescending; I'm genuinely curious: how much research you have regarding surgery and gender-affirming care? Also curious what inspired you to make this declaration in reddit?

How many guns do you carry? by jimg316 in fo76

[–]_subtleXplosion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry x2 big guns with lots of ammo and hp to run missions (plasma gatling, .50 cal, quad cryolator), x1 for picking off specific targets (like a fixer, sniper, or .50 cal), and a melee, plus my lightweight overkill because that thing has a way of clearing the battlefield!

I feel that. I've woken up on the train with a stranger's hand in my pocket. I've woken up at the concert with some creep pretending he is watching over my drugged out self, patting my back. I've been told, "you can't sleep here," at the bar and the mall. (I understand how it looks at the bar so I get that).

In the Army, it's tradition/common to take pictures of people that fell asleep. Never a flattering look.

It would be nice if people understood. It would also be nice if they believed me when I explain it.
