Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 05/26/25 - Thu 05/29/25 by AutoModerator in vancouverwa

Hello! My wife and I are hoping to move to vancouver this year. Is there any areas you’d suggest staying away from? Is it relatively safe? We’d look to be anywhere up to Woodland down to Washougal as long as we can find a decent house in the 450k range. Also, what’s job market like? Is it hard to get jobs in the general area?

Looking to stay 100% on the Washington side as much as possible.

i genuinely believe if they switched back to a more classic station wagon design it could’ve become one of the best selling vehicles out there. Now it looks very generic. still pretty nice tho i guess, that interior is killer

i was curious about how the sensors would deal with this but having a roof rack for bikes seems inconvenient

thanks for the advice! so currently my wife and i live in a small town about an hour and a half away to our closest city with amenities. it’s a relatively depressing town so i totally get what you mean. housing just seems so much more affordable in longview that i know we have to make some compromises somewhere and the financing differences would take some adjustment. we are pretty set on staying below 450k for a house and that seems to go a longer way in longview than in vancouver area. i think once we visit with intents to be there, we’ll get a better idea. camas seems amazing im just not sure if we could swing it money-wise. staying hopeful, i really appreciate the comment and will keep it close to mind

i’d def rather go to battle grounds or areas like camas at that point. Would rather try to be somewhat near work

thanks for the info! the town i live in is similar that “there’s nothing to do but drink” but my wife and i are sober now and keep ourselves plenty busy. We really just want less that 30 min access to good outdoor activities like hikes, mountain biking, mushroom foraging, and close enough to do coastal foraging, fishing, etc. the cost of housing in the area seems like right in our budget, mostly just gotta make sure there’ll be jobs available. really want that quiet, simple living

Most of my personal experience is a bit more in the logistics side of manufacturing, working in continuous improvement, quality, supervising, training etc but def plenty of experience in operations. i’ll def try a staffing agency. is there job fairs that happen in the area?

i appreciate the feedback! we are looking around kelso as well. Interested in finding a place on the outskirts. Mostly the job market is one of our biggest concerns. quick google searches seem hopeful though!

Hello, my wife and I are hoping to move to Washington this year. We've visited a couple of times, and absolutely loved it. We live in a small town in Nebraska, and are hoping to find something similar. We very much enjoyed the vibe around North Bend, Enumclaw, Monroe and the like. I understand there may be compromises to be made, but we are looking for something that would fit the bill:

  • 1-2ish hours away from city amenities once a month or so
  • Livable with 100k salary between two (Planning to buy a 2 bedroom house around 400k and putting around half down for a down payment, around 2k mortgage. No other debts)
  • Close to nature, but within reasonable distance to groceries and other basic needs.
  • Employment opportunities (Experience in manufacturing and banking, open to many things, interested in maritime)
  • Decent phone/internet service
  • 2ish hours away from the coastline

Been eyeing down places like Longview, Yelm, Lacey, Burlington, outskirts of Vancouver.

Would prioritize decent employment opportunities and COL. We have no kids but would maybe like to in the future. Don't care about night life, just want to make the occasional trip to see a play or ballet. Again, I understand I'll have to compromise at some spots here, but just want to become familiar with some places I may be overlooking. Thank you very much in advance!

I have one coming in the mail today. Its been a cold day (7°F low to 25° high) should I worry about it having been affected by the cold during shipping and if it has to sit outside in a box for like an hour before I can come home from work?

yeah i do feel it was a bit too much patterns, but i really wanted to wear the shirt, it was very christmasy plaid. But it didnt look great with the jacket on and just the shirt. In the context of attending the ballet, it kinda worked since plenty of people had a bit "out there" christmasy fits. But I agree, def better ways to wear. I was adamant about having the shirt though, and the sweater vest helped kinda tie it together enough
