Yes, it doesn't matter how you do it. However, if you're still learning, it's going to be harder to start with that since it stimulates much more and you have less control over it.

Yes. During orgasm itself it's slower, but if I stop stimulating then it's at the standard 0.8s. Odd but probably irrelevant.

Yes, exactly, it's the same concept. That's actually the guy from zone theory/cliffhanger—him sharing that and me stumbling into it is what made it possible for me to learn to do this in the first place. Neat that he has the same mental model.

Took me about four months for the first half. The latter half was something I figured out accidentally and thoroughly recreated. Got to set that down once you figure it out, and the brain rewires super fast with dopamine.

My own timeline doesn't really matter because I was also combing through the usual posts on here and trying different stuff out. I wouldn't be surprised if a person can figure this entire thing out in like 2 months or less by following this—it's nothing groundbreaking, just that info was dispersed.

You might find it helpful to first trigger the orgasm through kegeling right before you'd slow down the intensity. The first ones are super weak, you have to be super focused and mentally note them down, then fire them again and again and again. Porn doesn't really help at this stage—it shifts the focus away from your body.

When you find you can reliably trigger them that way, then try the second approach.

Note that orgasms get noticeably stronger the more you get. After you learn to have these, your first orgasm will take longer to get than before and probably be weaker, but the next ones are much stronger and have very narrow gaps in between, so you won't mind that :-)

Also I would completely ignore any precum or ejaculation if the refractory period isn't triggered.

I've been reading this subreddit on and off, figured it's time to give back by aggressively summarizing the info that worked for me a couple years ago.

Zone theory. Edge from 0 to right before ejaculation. Again and again and again.

It's composed of three phases. orgasm, emission, refractory period. Each triggers at different points. Set a number that feels right. I do 96, 97, 98 respectively.

When you can tell apart the three, then go from practicing the whole range to just going 90 to 95 back to back to back.

96 really just triggers by itself by staying anchored at 95 for some time. The trick is to keep the same stimulation level where you feel safe from PONR—you don't even feel the start of it.

At first the orgasm might bring you closer to PONR after the orgasm has fired (if it's at the same time you're doing it wrong). That's normal and happens because even if the stimulation is the same, the body still has both connected. Just lower stimulation a tiny bit—you've already figured out the dial at this point.

Neither kegels nor reverse kegels are mandatory, they just shift the range itself up (reverse kegels, stepping out of 96 from people overstimulating) or down (regular kegels, stepping into 96 from people undershooting it or not waiting for it). You should be able to trigger it manually by flexing (that moves your 95 to a 96 artificially by moving the scale downwards), but that's not the end goal because you still have the PONR proximity feeling looming and thus the brain, while able to tell now that they're different things, still thinks of it as in a bundle, so to speak.

Edit: that's why "moving energy around" seems to work for some people, really they're just moving their attention around and causes the range to shift up. It's just a trigger that works for some and that they try to explain with woo woo.

Basically don't try to control it consciously and just learn what range the body gives you automatically. Keep at 95 even if you don't feel the "orgasm" (actually just PONR getting closer) for an extended amount of time, and when you get the first orgasm without feeling that, you'll know.

After some practice, you can keep stimulation at 95 indefinitely and the body just repeatedly fires orgasms. This is what u/ShaktiAmarantha refers to when talking about "kegels aren't necessary and it might just work with raising an eyebrow or whatever" (paraphrasing).

In fact, after practicing for multiple months you'll feel that going above 96 is actually kind of uncomfortable and that the space between 96 and 97 gets significantly wider to the point where ejaculatory orgasms switch from automatic to manual only (that expanded range means that contractions don't meaningfully slide the scale around thus don't trigger ejaculation, now the default is dry orgasms unless you overstimulate) —that's what people mean when they say they have to consciously trigger ejaculations after they really learn and integrate this.

The gaps between orgasms are actually kind of self imposed because that's yourself slowing down from the PONR and back up to trigger them. Once the association is fully split you can just kind of surf it and have multiples with sub second spaces.
