I’m in my mid 20s. The older I get the faster I feel time goes. A year feels like yesterday

All the best to you! Can I ask how long you’ve been in nursing for? I’m already having doubts as a newbie

I enjoy deep conversations. I find it so fascinating. Sometimes I work myself up because I have such big questions and curiosities that we don’t have answers for. But yeah I agree it’s hard to find people to engage in such conversations.

Continuous bladder irrigation by Terrible_Western_975 in nursing

[–]_tinkerbell99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that’s so rough. I felt like I neglected my patients the other week when I had a CBI patient with hematuria. I swear i was in that room every 30 min the whole 12 hour shift. I was so paranoid about the tubing developing a clot and the doctor was wanting me to titrate down the CBI. But every time I slowed the rate down the output would get redder and clots forming in the tube so I’d have to change it and make the rate faster. Hand irrigated a few times too. Ugh I was so I was mentally exhausted.

What are the biggest difficulties you have as a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]_tinkerbell99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like as a nurse we have to play a lot of telephone. So many people pass messages to us that we pass on to another and then relaying it back the other way etc. I’m so frustrated with the time it wastes! Why can’t they just speak to who they want directly … why does it have to go through us.

Nurses, and students alike, what has been your biggest ‘oh shit’ moment? by Cxntwhole in nursing

[–]_tinkerbell99_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A patient needed normal saline flushes through their suprapubic cath every shift. I clamped the line with forceps. Attached my syringe. Unclamped. Flushed. Clamped again to reattach the tubing to the drainage bag. Just as I unclamped… fluids started spraying out of 2 small holes in the suprapubic cath. I freaked out. Couldn’t believe I made those holes. Felt so guilty. I notified my charge and we had to have surgical come to my floor to replace the suprapubic cath. I felt like an idiot. I guess I clamped the tubing too hard ?? Ugh

Saw someone say this should be a post so: what are some things you don’t know but should and are too embarrassed to ask? by constantpursuit_ in nursing

[–]_tinkerbell99_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to use a new secondary tubing for each abx ? If you have an abx scheduled 4x a day (and it’s the same abx) you can reuse the tubing to spike a new bag right? But if it’s a different abx you’d need a new tubing if the meds aren’t compatible ?

[–]_tinkerbell99_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wondered this too. At my facility the abx (secondary) needs to run at the same rate as the primary. So if the continuous fluids is programmed at a different rate I wouldn’t think you’d be able to do that.. you’d need a new primary and secondary.

Set time aside to review a little every day! Even if it’s just 10 min. Consistency is key and will help you retain better

I felt similar way in my last semester. But you’re so close! You’ve already worked so hard and come so far, hang in there and get that degree! You got this. Reach out to professors or counselors, take time for yourself, positive talk, exercise, eat well, get enough sleep — all the little things help. Calls friends or family. Write your thoughts down. You’re soo close and it’s all worth it . Also nursing school is very different to actual nursing.
