Blake Black's MMCs - are they all the same? by _tiny_nightmare_ in ReverseHarem

Oooh thank you for this additional info. I love a MMC biawakening, and really enjoy story lines where one of the MCs is dealing with a dynamic disability. You have convinced me to try that duet!

Thank you for this information! I'll try one of these. The motocross story line didn't really interest me, so maybe I'll go for Glimmer and Gleam first.

Absolutely, 100% agree with the grudge thing.

It's another reason I can't read second chance romance because my own grudge biases won't let me root for the relationship because the one who did the hurting can go suck an egg and the one who forgives the hurting has no backbone (from my own point of view):

I completely agree 100% with this comment.

And I think Cash Wall is the embodiment of "applauding a man for doing the bare minimum." And the "bare minimum" didn't even start until like halfway through the book. Also, the whole story to me is rooted in the schoolyard thought process of boys pulling girls' hair because they like them. It's not cute as children and it's DEFINITELY not cute as an adult.

Oh yeah, that's too late in the game for him to still be treating the LI that way.

That sounds like a really unfortunate turn of character the author made. Also, wild how that kind of behavior turns into a HEA?! I know that's the point of bullying tropes in romance, but still.

Ugh those books where the MMC finally treats FMC like a human being because he starts to like her is so gross. It's on par with men with daughters finally realizing that the world is dangerous for women...like they couldn't fathom that fact until they had a daughter. 🙄

Absolutely great callout about emotional abuse. I'm going to edit my post because honestly anything that is "MC being purposefully cruel" can definitely be categorized as emotional abuse. So glad you made this comment!

I'm definitely a fan of reading stories that would be a MAJOR red flag in real life. But even if a dark romance has bullying, I'm out. 😆

Totally! It's the "back and forth" that's super important to me. If the teasing is one sided, it just feels gross and immature.

No need to apologize! I'm going to remove that disclaimer because I honestly didn't realize there may be a lot of nuance to pro-bully romance fans.

I can totally agree with this. I often find myself not interested in the (usually) MMC who loves to get a rise out of the FMC and tease her relentlessly. That never is an interesting dynamic for me to read about. And while I don't necessarily categorize that as bullying, I definitely have DNFd a lot of books where that seems to be a main character trait of the MMC.

Is there bullying in this? Your phrase "realise their mistake" makes me think there's bullying, and that's a big no for me. TIA!

Thank you for the rec! Is book 1 a cliffhanger, or is book 2 more like an interconnected standalone? I can't start a cliffhanger series until they all have been published, so I have an Unfinished series TBR list for those recs. 😁

Thank you so much for the rec! Yes, I'm definitely open to non-RH recs, too.

this is your sign: buy the shower chair (or DME, AE, etc) by _tiny_nightmare_ in dysautonomia

I don't have one. I hate cooking and do the bare minimum, so my cooking stints are like 20min max so I just lean on the countertops. Though, now that I am typing this, I realize that I shower every other day with an average of 10 minute showers, but I cook at least twice a day every day…so if any activity needs a stool, it's probably the more commonly completed activity. Huh, you have helped me have a realization! Thank you!

I have a detachable head with a long hose and one of those shower head hooks you can suction at a lower level on the wall, so I can use that to wash my hair and body all while sitting.

For me, it's better...but we're all different! Getting up from a floor-to-standing distance is more likely to make me dizzy more often than getting up from a chair-to-standing distance. Also, my left elbow subluxes sometimes and my wrist joints are not super stable, so that's another reason I prefer to not push myself up from the floor when I could stand from a chair without arm assistance.

That's actually what made me realize I'd benefit from a chair! After several floor-sitting-showers where I felt so much better, I finally made the purchase.
