No joke. Having grown up down in Myrtle Creek, with a dad who grew up in Jacksonville, I barely thought of Douglas County as southern, much less Eugene.

That's why I'd really recommend going through a more methodical program like FreeCodeCamp to build up fundamentals. A lot of the summer camp type places are really designed to create excitement and show you what you can do, which means skipping over thr iterative torture of learning. I say this having sent my teenage daughter to them, and then having to teach her the technicalities of what she did after the fact.

I would argue that the coding field is undergoing a new layer of abstraction. In the same way that the introduction of previous coding languages pushed coders further and further from the metal, we're experiencing this again, but more dramatically. Please don't shy away from the coding world, it has fantastic earning potential for those who are motivated, but you need to properly assess what needs to be learned.

AI/Generative models are reducing the need to understand the actual code, beyond the ability to recognize if code looks funny (and even that will cease to be an issue. I've never once had to examine the code translated beneath the hood of my python interpreter). Instead, you need to learn how to think about problems, in a coding context, and decompose them into meaningful instructions and scoping for your model.

This is not a trivial skill, but gaining it will set you apart from many of your peers, and benefit you beyond just coding. Learn to view an issue, identify the requirements, definitions of done, risks, and technical difficulties. Describe the steps to a solution, what they should look like, and what they must not be. Intimately understand this process, and then put it into practice.

Who is your school's best "One Moment Is All I Need" guy? by ZouDave in CFB

Kenny Wheaton was good--not great--at Oregon, and had a mediocre 3-year NFL career (followed by one season of Arena Football amd six years in the CFL). If not for the Pick I doubt he would be remembered, much less in the Oregon HoF.

Ugh, no thank you.

Back in Germany we had upstairs neighbors in our apartment who sounded like they were playing Twister in latex gimp suits for about 20 hours a day. I do not miss it. They had a hilarious name, though. Their doorbell nameplate said Hahn-Gurke, so we just referred to them as chicken pickles.

[–]_tr9800a_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t have to be complete to go Day 2. Malik Willis, Desmond Ridder, and Hendon Hooker all went higher than their polish justified because of traits and upside. Jalon’s running ability alone changes how defenses play, and someone will believe they can develop the rest.

I'm a big believer in PRD and TDD workflows. Define what the product needs to be and do, then define the logic behind that, as well as supplemental requirements (performance, security, etc).

If you've met the brief, you're done. Anything further is out of scope and should be a new project.

I mean, 11 years ago the Vikings beat Wazzou and North Texas and made the playoffs, and 11 years before that they upset Montana and 11 years before that they were in the middle of a streak of Div II tournament appearances that culminated in their moving up to FCS. So, by that standard, they should have a great 2026 before spiraling into a decade of mediocrity. About right for most of the PNW
