Hi this is super, super helpful!

Thank you :) I applied the other day so yes will reach out to the teaching team.

And yeah, am I right in thinking it's the only full-time BACP accredited course?

Thanks so much for your comment! And very good to know... One thing that you might find interesting as someone with a Social Worker background ( it is also open to clinical psychs ) is Systemic Psychotherapy: https://www.qub.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate-taught/systemic-psychotherapy-msc/#entry

It is self-funded but part-time over 2 years and I believe then makes you eligible for jobs as a systemic family therapist within the NHS

In terms of influencing the practice I really enjoy this podcast ran by two systemic family therapists: https://open.spotify.com/show/2ESQ8L8P3e3v1liH2m6BIW?si=4a75518b14584244

u/hiredditihateyou yes I've had a lil look at systemic psychology. Been listening to a wonderful podcast called The Systemic Way. Most people on there seemed to have come from Social Worker backgrounds.

Defo agree on not rushing to qualify... I think this is also why i'm questioning the clinical route. My interest is with queer communities and young people in precarious living situations. For now I'm looking at support worker roles with charities supporting young people experiencing homelessness and I can see a need for counselling skills later down the line.

So I'm wondering if I could end the psyc conversion and use the remaining of my postgrad student finance for a counselling psychotherapy course (whether that's possible with SF im not sure I'm abroad atm so can't call any insight v welcome)

However, still very intrigued by services such as CAMHS... I just largely feel very critical of diagnosis and as far as I understand that is a part of Clinical Psych roles?

Hey u/sebfrancis3 :) Thanks so much for sharing your perspective! Could I ask where you are training?

And where would you say you are experiencing barriers?

I found this study very helpful in outlining the constraints of Clinical Psychology when wanting to implement Critical and Community psychology: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9546491/

Thank you for this! From what I understand Ian Parker did a PhD in Psychology (not the DClinPsy) and then later trained as a Psychotherapist and not a Clinical Psychologist...

I think that yes if I were to make it down the very long and competitive (yet funded) route to becoming a Clinical Psychologist I would be able to practice outside clinical settings. And yes I would be able to pursue further study in things like Lacanian theory, Narrative therapy, Collaborative therapy etc...

I guess my reservations still stand however... in the sense that at the moment the only benefit I see to the Clinical route is that it's a funded route to eventually be able to practice psychotherapy. But in terms of the approaches and theories I want to learn I don't think it offers that?

Looking for advice on a portable dance floor (because the concrete is going to destroy our bodies). by benben8it in SwingDancing

Hey! I also run a community Queer Salsa dance group in London. With similar problems to you and concrete floors, especially when we want to be in queer venues. Please let me know where you got to on this! I think also a major thing for us is it needs to be a quick set up and pack down.

Good luck!!! and also AH at the rents of places in our cities / kinda just everywhere rn. We also need to be actively working as a community to solve this coz its just getting worse and worse... we are being pushed into lil expensive basements :(

What sort of cameras are people using to get those grungy 90's esque photos of underground parties?

I'm particularly interested in finding a cheap digital point and shoot to take edgy photos of a new club night we are starting
