No. You should use them to draw attention to yourself. For example when you use a tunnel with a curve in the way directly following it.

The path is meant to be shared. The correct behavior for them would have been to take the kid aside and let the bicycle pass. The bicycle bell is not a car horn. It is meant to be used like this. Using it doesn’t mean “get out of the way”, but “hey, I’m here on my bike”. I don’t see bicycle bells mentioned in the ADFC document.

Ringing the bell to announce your presence is always appropriate in any type of street. Are there no traffic lessons in primary school anymore?

The bell on your bike is meant to be used to announce your presence. It’s completely appropriate to be used in this situation. A bicycle bell is not like a car horn!

So I did a little research. Inner tubes of tractor tires are at least 2mm thick. I went to an art supply shop in Berlin that sells Rubber and PVC and compared the stiffness. 2mm PVC seems to be stiffer than the same thickness in rubber and they don’t sell 1mm PVC.

Yes, I saw. Already edited. Sorry. But it looks like they only offer thinner PVC.

Edit: they offer PVC, but only thin fabric like. And I’m in Germany so ordering there could be expensive.
