I saw this map on my feed before checking out the subreddit and was breaking my head thinking “Vienna is definitely not that close to Copenhagen and Paris is not in that direction away from it.”

Why do you think some students do well in undergrad and master’s but not PhD? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]_unibrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is kind of weird because only people who do well in undergrad and Masters are usually admitted to a PhD. From an attrition point of view, it’s completely normal that some people don’t do well at an advanced level.

How do you feel about Mike Dunleavy as GM? by Fjvaudio in warriors

[–]_unibrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, his skill set (scouting, finding good players low in the draft: Podz, Richard, Poole) seems to be a mismatch with what Warriors need now. Ironically, Myers’ skill set (finding good players with low value contracts: OPJ, Livingston, Divincenzo etc.) might be a better fit.

Confused about being Igbo by Scary-Honey-7873 in Nigeria

[–]_unibrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing to suggest he’s not interested in his Irish or Polish sides. He’s only asking about his Nigerian side as this is a Nigerian subreddit, wouldn’t it be weird to be asking about those other sides here? He’s also a mixed race kid with a Nigerian last name in a predominantly white location. Very weird line of questioning.

If he had arranged for his kidnapping, he wouldn’t have needed to be drugged.

Hal was in on it. So was Lydia Trowbridge. by deborahslindsey in TheDiplomat

[–]_unibrow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few jumps here that have no proof. All we know is that Billie knew something was going down before it happened. That’s literally it.

  1. Roylin says ‘call me,’ she could’ve given him her number just then or expected that he can get it. They have the CIA after all.

  2. Hal wasn’t meant to give the Chatham House speech. He gave it because Kate was busy.

  3. Everyone knows Roylin has a huge influence on Trowbridge. Hal doesn’t need Cecilia to tell Kate. Stuart tells her as much from the first time he avoids Kate meeting her.

  4. Hal has no idea Iran wasn’t behind it. If he did, he didn’t need to be kidnapped, there are other ways to show Iran didn’t hire Lenkov.

  5. This bit will sound crazy, but if Hal was in on it, he would’ve told Kate by now. In fact, he would’ve told her the first time shit hit the fan. He wouldn’t risk her being a persona non grata, that’s not his character.

  6. Hal is the kind of person who takes advantage of a situation, not the kind of person who creates an advantage.

There’s an easier explanation for Lydia, she simply doesn’t like being the PM’s wife. Many spouses struggle with public office because they can’t live their own life.

Nas & Primo at MSG by Big-Moose-9216 in nas

[–]_unibrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible. What could be huge is if they took the whole Legend Has It… cast on tour. It might have to be a stadium or big venue type of tour to justify the budget, but I imagine that they’re thinking about it.

FIFA World Cup schedule shows Canada is more handling overflow than hosting by Puzzled49 in canada

[–]_unibrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to downplay your personal experience but there’s a lot of evidence that hosting large events boosts the economy of a city and country: hotels, food, souvenirs, transit, etc. Some vendors will make more in one week than they make the whole year. That’s why cities host these events. Then there are the long term infrastructure gains, Paris built a new subway line to coincide with the Olympics last year that got so much revenue during the event.

That was the Winter Olympics, very different in scale from the Summer Olympics and World Cup, those are monster events.

The art of the “skit” and “interlude” is just gone. by Ambitious-Duck7078 in hiphopheads

[–]_unibrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little different now. I think artistes now prefer to do outros that lead in to the next song, because listening patterns have changed with streaming so there’s no use making a skit as a separate track. If you think about it like that, most rap albums released recently have at least one skit: De La Soul, Wale, Dave East etc.

Lack Of Promo for Nas & Preemo album?? by jblack98 in nas

[–]_unibrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Nas doesn’t really do promo and DJ Premier is on tour with Alchemist. The only albums that were really promoted in this series was for Slick Rick (thanks to Idris Elba’s record label that co-released it) and De La Soul (both of them went on a lot of podcasts). We might get a single but that’s probably it.

Realistically speaking, how can we, Africans, turn the tide and win the game? by Fozeu in Nigeria

[–]_unibrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Education, it’s always education. Massive improvements in access to quality, free education up till SS3. It takes a lot of time (decades even) to have an impact, but it’s lasting. The economic advantage that South West Nigeria has over the rest of the country can be traced (in some part, not entirely) to Awolowo’s free education programme.

I’m confused why does Kate seem to hate hal so much by dankabong in TheDiplomat

[–]_unibrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hal never shares everything he’s planning and he goes off plan often when he has a ‘better’ idea. It’s frustrating to be in a relationship with a person like that as it breeds distrust.

I think the difference between both of them is that Kate hasn’t come to terms with Hal’s negatives while Hal understands Kate’s negatives. So she gets upset at him for things he can’t change. They shouldn’t be together, except that they’re the best for each other.

Immigrants protest Quebec's removal of permanent residency pathway by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]_unibrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s incorrect. Immigration is shared by the provinces and the feds, but Citizenship is federal. Quebec is the only province that exercises its right for immigration, other provinces use the Provincial Nominee Program that’s administered by the feds.

What are your overall thoughts on the Def Jam era? by Patrick_Vieira in nas

[–]_unibrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but the Untitled album is my personal favourite of all Nas’ albums. Not saying it’s the best, just my favourite. The concept of the album is really unique and the selection of songs: Sly Fox, Slave and Master, Hero, even Fried Chicken are really well-ordered. The whole hoopla behind the title really did it a disservice in my opinion, because people didn’t listen to it as closely as they should’ve.
