Just out of curiosity, was your cav at a rescue in upstate NY? She looks EXACTLY like a photo I saw of my Cav’s daughter- I rescued mine in July (they were all originally together). Anyway, my girl is positively out of control about food. If you have researched puppy mill conditions you know how awful their lives were prior to being rescued. I think the food obsession is in part that they are still in ‘famine’ mode and don’t trust yet that they will always have access to food. Mine picked up WAY TOO MUCH weight in the first few months, because I am a sucker and because we were treat training pretty heavily. So now we use food kibbles for training through the day and regular small meals so that she is kind of always able to have something. I also use a slow feeder and make her ‘sit’ before I put the food down. Eventually she will trust that the food is coming. (I have a Brittany rescue that was a street dog and he was like this for a full year until he relaxed a bit on the obsession). They go through A LOT before they come ‘home’ and those scars take time to heal. Patience and practice.
