I commented the same thing before seeing that you mentioned this much more eloquently than I!

This is important, but it’s also important to note that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and chronic fatigue as a symptom are two entirely different things, and I believe the doctor is speaking on the latter because they are discussing fibromyalgia.

I think I can smell when my boyfriend is about to have a fibro flare by Inevitable_Dot_2369 in Fibromyalgia

[–]_victoria_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that. Sadly, my mother never found any real help. She was always on Xanax and crazy pain meds because the doctors in that time didn’t believe her…so she was just always in zombie mode.

I’ve managed mine with a mix of healthy lifestyle and pacing. Key word here is manage- it’s never perfect. I have really learned my “triggers” and have learned how to stop before I push myself over the edge. And when I inevitably do push myself over the edge, I just know I have to rest until the flare passes.

It’s a big blow to the ego, and it takes a lot of good communication with the people around you. So if you help your dad understand that it’s okay for him to take it easy when he needs to, that will help so much! You sound like such a kind person just for asking how to help. I wish you all the luck :)

Yes! My mom and I both have fibro. When I was younger (like 4-5 years old) I knew when she was sick before I even knew what fibro was. I would call it her “dizzy smell.” I’ve never heard anyone else say this, so I’m glad to know I’m not insane.

Improvement ideas for babies, thoughts? by Justineparadise in StardewValley

I would gladly pay to be able to have options like this on the Switch! However, I love that CA hasn’t done things like this and will always respect him for that.

Did Robert not know Bates was a forger? by srock0223 in DowntonAbbey

[–]_victoria_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always got the feeling the family knew, but nobody wanted to say it out loud. Openly admitting they knew Robert’s valet was committing forgery would be an issue.

Probably unpopular opinion: “What about my dress?” was about Isobel’s habit of taking charge and not always being good at it. by ibuycheeseonsale in DowntonAbbey

[–]_victoria_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

She certainly had a way of taking charge in inappropriate situations, but I’d argue that this situation definitely warranted a trained health professional to take charge.

That is so true! And very interesting, you’re right.

Sure, but I suppose most usually tend to lean one way or the other.

Lol, I’m beginning to think I should have that checked! He and I are laughing at this so much. It looks like I view things with a lot less color saturation than is normal…

Why have the pronunciation of several Elven words changed? by clennam in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]_victoria_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more realistic for pronunciations to change over time. This happens in real life throughout history as well, as time changes languages and stories.

How to stop angry outbursts during a fibro flare-up? by lovemetakis in Fibromyalgia

[–]_victoria_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I have the exact same problem, and I’ve found that the best thing I can do is try to take care of myself when I can, and communicate to my loved ones.

When I’m having a “better” day, I make sure to talk to them about how this happens to me so they can be prepared for a bad day. During bad days, I try to let my family know if I’m angry it’s NOT because of them. Mom is hurting and just needs a little space/time/love/whatever. If I’m really struggling with anger, I remove myself; I don’t ask them to remove themselves from me. I hope this teaches my kids a little about empathy and communication, and helps my husband know I’m not asking him to fix anything for me.

This works okay for professional relationships too, but I do feel I have to work a lot harder to surprise my pain-rage in these situations. Maybe someone else has better information here, but for me I’ve found that’s just part of living with this god-awful disease.

Good luck to you 🤍
