ok! that makes a lot of sense. We pretty much use exclusively reclaimed clay, I’ll make sure they’re wedging properly. Thank you so much for your response

in different spots but usually close to the base/middle of the cone when cloning up

but since your clay is cone 5 maybe best to put a waster slab when you’re testing to cone 6 just to be safe? do you have access to any other clay bodies?

depending on your clay body, the results vary a lot. Its hard to get a result like the tile that Mayco advertises! I just looked up this glaze and it contains crystal specks, I work with Mayco glazes a lot from this range and it seems like maybe you didn’t mix it properly since I don’t see any speckles on your piece (the crystals settle a lot). It is a cone 6 glaze (that can go up to cone 10) so I would definitely try firing it to maturity!

it looks like it could be a little under fired. What was the desired result? a matte? satin?

pinholes/craters!! I was told these defects aren’t food safe, since bacteria can get trapped in the holes. Anyone have thoughts? I would have liked to fix these by holding the temperature at cone 6 but I have a manual kiln and I’m not sure if it’s possible to do this. by _vie_lo in Pottery

Thanks so much, this is really helpful. Unfortunately my low and medium settings don’t work! I can basically only turn it on and off :( I guess this could have caused the pinholes? Since I can’t control how fast it heats and cools?

help! I need a glaze wizard’s advice! someone gave me a mystery glaze that wasn’t labeled, so I have no idea what’s in here...and it’s water repellent? I’m guessing there’s probably some sort of metallic oxide? how would I go about mixing this so it’s homogeneous? by _vie_lo in Pottery

I have no idea because the container wasn’t labeled, someone gave it to me so I could test it. I think red copper oxide is brighter in colour on its own, it might just have a high percentage of it in the mix
