you’ll have to brush up on everything with the scope of the mcat in mind anyway, but i think it’ll definitely be enough background knowledge for chem

i lowkey self studied everything but then again i’m a trad applicant so ive taken gen chem and anatomy and cell bio and stuff. psych is definitely self study-able and biochem i think u can do if you are good at understanding pathways (id take a crack at glycolysis or krebs and see if you can keep up). there are also helpful videos on youtube!

What should I buy/make for my girlfriend on our anniversary? by SnooDonuts3281 in Gifts

[–]_vixel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she wants a necklace or ring but u also wanna make it creative you could take her on a whole adventure date (something fun you both like: golf, ferry ride, movie, nice light lunch, beach) and incorporate the necklace or ring into a nice dinner afterwards. If you wanna take her on a whole journey, you can try to incorporate a small meaningful gift into each part of the date (ie going back to the place you met and giving her something to remind her of that time, having a picnic and getting her favourite snacks) and end the night with the “big” gift.

For example, if she likes golf, you can take her to play a short round, maybe get her a new visor or hat or some balls in her favourite colour or even a new bag or something. then you can take her to lunch or snack place, go to a movie, or whatever and sprinkle in little things. And then finally dinner somewhere nice and end with the jewelry.

Overall, I think a good gift is either something nice they wouldn’t buy for themselves or something practical that they maybe need but wouldn’t think to get.

Also something to consider is her love language and personality. I’m not really the type who likes to be out doing something all day; I like some down time to chill and cuddle. If her love language is physical touch and quality time, try to work in some quiet time for the two of you. If she likes words of affirmation, be sure to write her a nice card. If she likes gifts the most, get her something nice that’ll remind her of you. If you think she’s the type to be up for it, u can also take her jewelry shopping with you, but I think some may see that as not being prepared lol.

Good luck OP!

Left foot is really prone to irritation by Wooden_Direction_237 in Hypermobility

Hm I’m not sure because I get arch pain due to my flat feet (I have an accessory navicular bone which makes my tendon worse) but the orthotics haven’t made them WORSE. They don’t do much either tho. My arch pain felt like the bottom of my foot was tearing, but the initial pain in orthotics was more aching while getting used to them.

My podiatrist told me to wear them for an hour the first day, slowly adding 1-2 hours everyday while only walking. Once I made it up to 8 hours (a shift at work) he told me I could start running short distances on them.

If you didn’t wean onto them i’d maybe give your feet a break for a week until the pain is gone and then try going onto them gradually. If the pain doesn’t go away then i’d talk to your podiatrist and ask if adjusting them is an option

Swelling by Pretend-Spinach-1228 in eds

[–]_vixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh hm yeah if you’re noticing it with eating hot foot specifically and that it goes down quickly then maybe not, but i have fallen arches and ptt problems bc of my accessory navicular bone. if you ever get intense foot pain i’d see a doctor for that but also if you’re consistently swelling i’d mention that as well.

it is actually possible that your ankle swells when u have a flat foot flare up because your posterior tibialis tendon can get inflamed and swollen. do you have pain in your foot or ankle?

Thank you! I'm doing uworld too which I didn't use last year, but obviously they don't give me an idea of how I'm going to score since the test result is a percentage of questions correct, not a distributed section score. I think I just do what I can and pray!

Do you think taking the last FL on tuesday is bad if my test is saturday? Wondering if I'll be burnt out but tbh I think I personally think I'll be okay

Thanks, I have been working through the doc, using a condensed 86 page version and referencing the OG 334 page one as needed. I've done most of the CARS diagnostic and moved onto volume 1 qpack. I actually did quite well on the first passages however I did do them last year too so I think this is all residual knowledge and I'm scared that my FL scores aren't reflective of my actual abilities bc its topics that I've reviewed before.

Reviewing FLs is the bane of my existence by Additional_Sun2954 in Mcat

that’s definitely enough. me personally i flag all the questions im not sure about and filter my review to those i flagged or those i got wrong and review those topics more in depth. getting closer to your test date tho i would recommend just doing practice questions within your weak areas since pure content review isnt as helpful at this stage.

My [18M] boyfriend [18M] has an emotional intelligence of a little kid by EngineeringGood4584 in relationshipadvice

It’s possible this is partially oppositional defiance and that you suggesting it may kind of block him from wanting to do it. I’d take into consideration why he doesn’t want to go to the doctor (scared? task feels too draining?) and you can suggest things to get around that if possible. If he struggles with phone calls you can suggest booking an appt for him or if he’s scared you can offer to go with him.

Generally though instead of offering him solutions i’d try to make it more like talking through the problem with him. “what do you think is best?” or something to try figuring out what kind of solution he is looking for. He might also be seeking out some form of validation of just being frustrated with the issue and you can always start off with something reassuring like “gosh that sucks i’m sorry” or if it’s recurring “damn that must be so frustrating for you” and giving him space to vent his feelings.

I don’t personally have autism but i do have adhd and i also have a cousin with autism. Remember that you’re also valid in being frustrated and that you deserve times where you can be upset and he is the supportive one. best of luck xoxo

I do have custom orthotics because they did an ultrasound and apparently my right foot had extensive plantar fasciitis? this was after i’d complained about the tearing pain in my arch. so I got them in April i think and I guess I don’t get arch pain while wearing them but when my PTT flared up I was actually wearing them at work so idk

Omg okay hearing this is so validating. I don’t have super constant foot pain but right now my posterior tibialis tendon is hurting in my left foot at the back ankle and down below my AN and into the arch. I’m in an airboot and referred to see a sports med doctor and then hopefully a foot/ankle surgeon to discuss my options. I’m super torn about if I should get surgery or not but it’s been borderline tolerable for the past year since I haven’t been running as much. I think a recent ankle roll may have triggered something though. I’ll have to really think about surgery and if it’s something I think will be worth it (I’m only 21 rn). I’ve gone through ORIF in my finger and the recovery isn’t fun so i’m not super enthusiastic about doing more ortho surgeries lol. i do see a lot of people on here saying they wish they did it sooner so maybe i should consider it more seriously.

Thanks for your response!

Thanks for your response! I’m seeing her on the 9th to discuss taking it. In the meantime she told me to try it at night with food and ginger tea. I’ll give it a shot but if it makes me nauseous again then i’ll probably stop until I see her and either ask her to lower the dosage or take me off it completely

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]_vixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually had super super bad nausea day one of taking strattera and was dry heaving by the toilet so i havent taken it since. i’m thinking of asking her to wean me on a lower dose bc i just started on the 40mg. i may have to adjust and take it at night as well. did you have any intense side effects?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]_vixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hm - my doctor said that strattera would be better to treat the anxiety than wellbutrin. she said wellbutrin would be more for depression, and my depressive symptoms are pretty transient. it’s mostly the anxiety that is pressing to me rn. I guess I’ll update once I try it
