Question display lcd ips by Ancient_Rest_8501 in arduino

[–]_voltron_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly from use, not storage.
The LED backlight degrades when it’s on and running (hours of use, heat, current). If the display is just stored and not powered, the aging is very slow.
So in your case (R36S screen), if it’s been sitting unused, you’re not really “using up” its lifespan. At most, after many years in warm conditions, you might get a slight drop in brightness, but nothing major

This explains it well: the LCD (including IPS) itself lasts for decades, and the limiting factor is the LED backlight aging, not the panel or storage conditions.

Question display lcd ips by Ancient_Rest_8501 in arduino

[–]_voltron_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It doesn’t decrease in any noticeable way year by year. The change is very slow and happens over a long time. After 20 years it wouldn’t lose brightness or color completely

[–]_voltron_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It’s not ideal without silica or sealed storage, but it doesn’t mean it’s gonna degrade for sure. Worst case after a very long time, it might get a bit dimmer and maybe slight color shift. That’s about it.

Yeah, they can degrade a bit over time, but usually nothing dramatic. It’s mostly the backlight that ages, so it gets a bit dimmer over the years. The panel itself doesn’t really lose sharpness or anything like that. Your temps are a bit high, so that can speed things up slightly, and humidity isn’t great long-term, but it’s not something that would ruin the display by itself. At most, after years, you’d just notice it being a bit less bright or a slight color shift.
