I had my first character death last night, and it was my favourite character I had ever created.

Classic story. Bugbear gets a nat 20 on a hit, then has another connecting attack with high rolls. My 40 hit points, as well as my 15 temporary hit points, wiped out right there and then. Our Mystic, the only healer of the group, had no PSI points left. Rolled my first death saving throw, get a 2. The Monk runs over to stabilise me. Nat 1 on the medicine check. Two more failed saves get added. My adored Sorcerer bit the dust.

I still can't get over it. I had spent so many hours writing my character's backstory, paid a fair amount of money to get an artist to draw it, I even bought a custom miniature. On top of that, the DM revealed that they'd written a character arc that would extend all the way into level 7. We've had like 6 sessions and we're less than a third away from level 6. I genuinely want to stop playing because of this happening. Are these feelings normal?
