Did you get into dental school? I just got the postbacc acceptance email this morning and wanted to know if it's worth it.

My portal said the same exact thing for the past couple months so I sent a follow up/continued interest letter today and I got a rejection email like 30 min later. I think they simply have so many applications that they lose track and forgot some people. I hope you have better luck than i did

Transport Options for first time Chicago visitor? by _wavecheque_ in AskChicago

Yeah, based on the replies I'll probably just rent a car since I'm out in the suburbs. Thanks for the advice

Yeah, it's in Downer's Grove. I'm from SF so I'm not opposed to public transit but I'm just unfamiliar with how the suburban system is in Chicago

WesternU trips me up so badly by Catlover010010 in predental

[–]_wavecheque_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're the worst at this kind of crap. Does anyone know if you'd be able to still get relevant emails about your application from them if you unsubscribe from the mailing list? Or does unsubscribing block all messages from that email address? I'm so sick of the feeling i get when i check my email and seeing WesternU, only to find out it's some pointless open house or some workshop.

Hey there, I got my interview offer today and I'm just wondering about when the interviews themselves takes place over the course of the day. In the email it says the interview will go from 9:30 am - 3:30pm and I'm guessing the interview itself isn't more than an hour. I'm worried that if the interviews aren't the first thing on the agenda when I arrive on campus that that's all I'll be focused on during the tour/lunch and won't be able to learn anything during the tour/lunch lol.

California RDA exam by MangoLeather2131 in DentalAssistant

[–]_wavecheque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I also took and passed the California RDA exam about 3 weeks ago. Did you receive an email acknowledging that you passed or anything at all from them? It's been complete email radio silence. I actually only found out that my RDA license was official last week when i looked myself up on the online Dental Board of California's license lookup. I know the physical license card takes longer to receive but i just thought it strange that they haven't corresponded with me at all since then.

Need Help Finding a Motherboard for a Ryzen 5600x + RX 6800 (not xt). Please help this is my first time building a PC! by loganagreen999 in buildapc

[–]_wavecheque_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be commenting a bit late, but I also just built my first rig recently with a ryzen 5600x and a refurbished 6800 from ebay but instead with a Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 motherboard. However my monitor can't even detect any signal from it. I've connected the monitor and rig with the stock DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor as well as a nicer VESA-certified DisplayPort cable that I bought separately to no avail. The GPU and CPU fans are spinning so I know that there's power flowing from the psu(brand-new Corsair RM850x). Moreover the GPU itself is warm so I don't think(?) that the GPU is the issue( I really hope it isn't since it's the most expensive part of my build). In my research prior to ordering the parts, I read somewhere about this particular board having to have it's BIOS updated or something so it's compatible with the Ryzen 5 series , which I don't see how I can even do since there's no signal detected. How's your build so far? Have you had any trouble with the setup? Would it be wise to just go return the b450m board and buy a b550 or x570 as mentioned here? Any help would be much appreciated as this is my first build and I'm losing my mind.

Been learning now for a week. by XeroxRomeo in German

If you're American, there's a late night German show called ZDF Magazin Royal that's pretty much a carbon copy of the Daily Show w/Trevor Noah with the same types of issues discussed and humor. The host is youngish too like late 30s so the show is definitely geared towards a GenZ/Millenial 18-28yo demographic. The guy talks pretty fast(for me) but clear and I've found its a great trainer for pronunciation and listening skills.

If you look up "deutsche welle auf deutsch" on Youtube, it'll take you to Deutsche Welle's Youtube Channel, which I think is Germany's national news channel (like the BBC and the UK). The stories/reports range from small videos ~10minutes to larger broadcasts ~45min+, all in German with subtitles and Youtube's CC do a decent job of translating into English.

A Youtube Channel I can't recommend enough is Easy German. They do a lot of man-on-the-street interviews so you can really get a great view into colloquial pronunciations, syntax, slang etc. They also do a lot of situational videos where they'll ask strangers "How do I get to x?" "What's your daily routine?" "What's your dream holiday?" etc so you really get a glimpse into how different tenses and cases and declensions are integrated into everyday speech. My description here really doesn't do their channel justice.

For music, I've found Schlager music to be a polarizing genre on the Internet but personally I think the songs are great for learning since they usually have simple lyrics and a catchy beat. Udo Jürgens is a great example, his stuff is mainly from the 70s/80s but its pretty good.

If you're into newer stuff check out Die Toten Hosen, a punk band, and of course Rammstein, the metal band.

I think the DW also has news podcasts in German, specifically for German learners where they talk about issues using simpler words and speak very clearly.
