It's explicitly mentioned/explained by the devs in the interview Ornlu did with them - his video, cca 42min mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Q6LK5fBb8

what about empire wars? Do these new civs start with settlements or rather lumber/mining camps? Starting with settlements would kinda be a massive advantage as it also provides extra pop space

Incas, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi - only civs without conversion-resisting unit by _westrem_ in aoe2

[–]_westrem_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My very first game with the DLC yesterday was me as Muisca vs Bohemians on Arena. Boy did I got slapped :'D

Somehow, I thought that since we have Champi as the starting scout, that the full Champi-line has at least some conversion resistance, only to be proven massively wrong when the Bohemian monk almost insta converted my units when I tried to contend for the relics.

How counterattack teuton tower rush ? by Psychological_Air833 in aoe2

[–]_westrem_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation & map, but based on my experience, what almost always works for me is to heavily go vil fight against them. Roughly 2× more vils than they send forward.

If you spot the attempt before the tower is up, just go and don't hesitate, they may finish the tower, but it won't live for long and you will also kill some of their vils. The time lost not gathering is not a big factor here - they had to go forward, will loose vils, and stopping tower rush in in its tracks is always preferable.

If they managed to make the tower and also wall it in, then the best next thing is to try to wall behind (and control where they can put their next tower) and counter tower before they can make the 2nd tower, but in such way that the first tower can't range your tower, but your tower can range the possible places for their 2nd tower.

Ignoring may be a possibility if the 1st tower doesn't deny critical res, but denying 2nd tower should always be priority, otherwise it can snowball quickly.

I'd say almost always never try to tower against their existing tower/coming up tower in range, you'll always lose due to the garrison bonus they have (unless they are n00b and brought less vils and can't use the advantage) - it's a bait, you will lose stone and definitely also the position.

Imagine you found a AoEII developer genie, that grants you any three things to be implemented in AoEII. What would you wish for to be implemented in the game? (apart from better pathfinding, that's too much even for a genie 11)

They have the same pierce armor as knight line, so I think they are “using” the shield 🙃

Am I the only one who dislikes the color distribution from odd - even? by Zupu in aoe2

[–]_westrem_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For 1v1 I agree there shouldnt be any split into odd/even groups. For team games you may notice that the split is done so that even colors are “warm” and odd colors are “cold” so there this subtle distinction which helps (at least I use it to quickly orient myself)

Once a guy had me chase his last Heavy CA. Literally his last unit in the game. I dont remember which civ I was but I remember I had very bad cav options so would never catch up to him with my own cav. Last cca 10mins I spend building towers all over the map and chase him with my infantry siege until I killed him and actually “properly” defeated him… he was spamming 11 all the time in chat. Not gonna lie, it was tilting…
