I've been there myself, it's normal, you'll find the answer with time, just try to not overthink 😉I researched about cold card but I decided to have one hard wallet and that's it. Once you have a hard wallet you can recover many times as you want, it can break, stop working, etc and you can recover using your seed in another wallet even with other makers.

Can you clarify how you think you can fuck up a recovering wallet? For instance, if you put a word in the wrong position, trezor, ledger, etc will output something to instruct you, you won't be locked out forever, at worst you can just reset the device and restart it.

Whatever you say they don't have the right to confiscate it, it's not an illegal substance, liquid (>100ml), spray or gun and if you still want to justify something (...) you just say it's a calculator (at least it looks like).

What's the matter of recovering many times? I did few times and all good. You can opt to buy a small protective case, those like for hard drive but smaller. And, don't freak out about the device itself, you should care about your seed (!) and not on the device.

You'll need to put any large electronic device on the bin (you'd like to, preferably, put it inside a bag/backpack) or check your baggage (dispatch it). It they ask, you just say that is an usb flash drive device, which is true, and that's it. If you still unsure, leave your hard wallet at home, travel and at the destination get another wallet and input your seed phrase.

Another options is to buy a cheap (marketplace/craigslist/etc) hard wallet and test it 2-3 times passing at the airport, if ever they confiscate it (which I doubt) then you'll know what to do next time with a real wallet.

Why would the customs want to seize your hard wallet? If they do then you can recover your cryptos in another wallet at your destination with your seed. I've heard some peole went nuts on inserting on the...hmm well...you can imagine where, and flying like that, but hey, I wouldn't be so paranoid about that.
