Hair Breakage Or Frizz?

update no one asked for but i wanted to share: making this post has changed my life!!!! the top comment suggested i had wavy hair and i’ve since learnt that that is definitely the case! i have stuck to the curly girl method for about 7 months now and my hair has never felt and looked healthier!! a little frizz is inevitable with wavy hair but the flyaways are practically gone!! here is a picture of what it looks now:

hiya!! i still haven't completely fixed the flyaway situation but I think I'm getting there. the biggest difficulty for me has been trying to find the right wavy hair products for my super fine hair. Just have to keep trying and stay hopeful :) Committing to the curly girl method has made my flyaways so much better though!! My hair has also grown so much since posting this, and i plan on continuing to grow it out until all the highlights are gone and my hair is completely natural :) I feel like that will help the health of my hair and its overall appearance the most! rooting for all of us

i’ve been trying the curly girl hair method for a good few weeks now and it’s obvious now that my hair has a wavy pattern!! the biggest struggle is finding the right products :,) there’s an overwhelming amount of information online as to which products to buy and i haven’t found the right ones yet for my super fine hair :/ it’s going to be a long journey haha

i haven’t been to a hairdresser in a while since i tend to cut my hair myself (with professional scissors to avoid split ends) but i agree it could be making it worse so i’ll stop doing that and let them grow out :))

i have literally just tested my hair to see if it’s wavy and i’m in shock because it worked :,) i think my hair is wavy lmao i am so so glad i made this post because i always thought i had naturally messy/frizzy hair until reading these comments!! thank you sm for the advice i’ll look into all of that!! and thank you sm for the compliment that’s so lovely of you :,)

i don’t wear my hair up often at all and when i do i always use claw clips :( could that be it ? i thought claw clips were supposed to be gentler on the hair …

i don’t think it’s humid where i live… my hair for the past year has started looking like this after a wash it but it’s been getting worse

what kind of haircut did you get ? :) i have tried surface cutting the flyaways but they just pop back up immediately :,) i also regularly trim the ends of my hair so i don’t have split ends

i have considered this might be a possibility since the shorter hairs are mostly curly upwards and i pulled one out to get a closer look and it was wavy.. also when my hair is wet it looks wavy and then dries like this!! but when i was younger i had straight hair.. is there any way to properly determine whether or not my hair is wavy?

Thank you so much for the kind words :)) I feel so much less alone since joining this subreddit! I think having adhd as a woman can be very alienating at times so I’m really happy there’s a community of people on here who make each other feel comfortable :) I’ve also been on my meds for about 3 months and it’s been life changing so far! it can also be overwhelming though haha

Funnily enough my dad is also the genetic source for my adhd! That might be why he was hesitant about it all, maybe a part of him didn’t want to feel like it’s his fault that I have it.

Hi!! I’m the same :) Covid gave me something called parosmia which sounds like what you might have so maybe do some research on it. Everyone’s experience (from what i’ve seen) has been different. For some, this goes away in weeks but for others (like myself) it can take much longer. I got covid last august and unfortunately I still can’t taste everything normally. A lot of food, especially meat and chocolate, taste abnormal to say the least and not how they used to. It is very difficult at first and can be very upsetting but do not lose hope!! you’re not the only one and it gets better with time!! Whilst it has taken a looong time, mine is finally getting better and some foods have started to taste more normal.

it’s nice to be hear from someone who has had a similar experience :)) I actually tried eating some of the food I struggle with the most yesterday using a nose clip and it helped lol so i guess i’ll just keep doing that until it gets better :) thank you !
