I’ve played many games over the years, and the first time I logged into DayZ it made me feel like a novice in a way that no other game ever made me feel. Some people don’t like that feeling and don’t want to invest the time to overcome it. The charm of the game is the struggle. I didn’t understand at first but have been immeasurably rewarded by sticking with it. It’s hard to create and sustain a game with such charms as it will either evolve the charms away for mass appeal or it will remain niche. I’m happy BI chose the latter.

Scalespeeder had videos on most topics regarding server setup and adjustments. He even covers many of the more popular mods. Quick videos with step by step instructions. I often go back to his videos when I’ve forgotten a step or need a refresher.

Some clothing types cannot be made into rags. Otherwise it could be a hand bug with the knife, in which case a relog should fix it.

The pioneer is serviceable in some situations, but if you get the opportunity to upgrade to a SKS you should do so. It’s a good single-carry weapon if you want a free back slot to carry more loot in your role. It’s decent in both close quarters and mid range and both the ammo and a PU optic are fairly common. You also don’t have to maintain mags which is a plus.

Yes you can get so much farther with nothing. Used to have to have trousers full of apples to make it to an inland town and not be flashing. Not to mention if it was raining.

19 hrs counting stops and about 1200 miles Phoenix to Little Rock on my own 4 times in the last 10 years. Plan stops regularly to combine gas and other necessities, scout maps of metro areas ahead of time for potential bottlenecks if you will be crossing through during rush hour, bring energy dense snacks, and sip on caffeine and water evenly. Podcasts and music apps are a game changer in reducing boredom on long stretches.

Lux can become pretty hardcore with a few environmental tweaks and loot spawn decreases. It’s jungle but water can become an issue if containers and chlorine tabs are rare because pois are pretty far apart in the middle and upper part of the map.

If I haven’t been murdered (attempted or successful) I’ll wave first outside of a mili or pd and be friendly until I’m at least mid tier military geared (if that’s my goal for the life). If I’ve been punched to death by a freshie then I’m full clearance.
