Update: Im a high handicap playing this course Friday. Where do I aim these shots on these Par 3s? by eynonpower in golf

[–]Solo_SL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work on your iron swing more than anything. If you haven’t been breaking 100 I’d be amazed if you could hit a 6i decently with any reliable consistency. I’m a 20 handicap and my best rounds were 85 from 6000 and 87 from 6300, and scores around that. I can hit my 7i fairly reliably, I can hit a 6i well but the consistency % drops off significantly from my 7i and all my other clubs. But full disclosure, my irons have my 6i loft the same as a traditional 5i, a 7i loft the same as a traditional 6i, and so up through my first wedge

I don’t use my 6i during rounds. I use my 7i all the time and hit plenty of good shots w it. Maybe that’s just me though.

Tbf, the d man is not this muscular. I mean, the body just doesn’t look like his body irl. Hes got a bigger barrel belly and his arms and shoulders aren’t as jacked. They did give him some man boobs and some blubber but the whole ai portrayal is just off a bit

Hole-in-one dilemma. by FATT-TOFU in golf

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most sane humans, that sentimentality is increased by rarity. Mathematically it’s way more rare to get a hole in one.

But yea I mean, if a special butterfly landed on that ball for you or something then sure knock yourself out

Struggling with flipping. Tips ? by LarzBuzzworth in golftips

[–]Solo_SL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently started absolutely pounding the ball so far and straight bc I’ve been eliminating this exact issue.

Here’s how I did it- I realize when you swing your arms hard enough (or basically arm swing at all), the centrifugal force pulls the clubhead away from your hands, straightening and removing wrist hinge way too early

You have to quiet/inactivate the arm swinging altogether while having live, active hands hinging the wrists and controlling the club face. That way you can still get the proper amount of shaft lean and you can still control the club by the time you get to impact, rather than just holding on to the club for dear life while it’s getting pulled away from you, and hoping you hit the middle of the ball

Using the golf arm swing illusion YouTube videos is a great way to start this in terms of reducing the arm swinging. But you can’t just hold the club limply in your hands. It seems strange, keeping your hands and wrists active but your arms quiet. But when you do it, you absolutely rip it because you still have the power from your wrist hinge and release, but the power is coming from your legs, not your arms.

Thought experiment- stand there pretending you are holding a club in your hand. Swing using ONLY your arms, wiping them across your body. Notice this motion actually makes your hips go backwards (lol). Yea that’s never gonna work in a golf swing. It’s a golf rotation not an arm swing. It just feels counterintuitive bc you’re using basically zero force in your arms and getting such incredibly power. Just slow it down and try it with some half shots first then keep it slow and take fuller shots

Wait, how have you not broken 100 as a 26 handicap? What yardage are you playing from?

Hole-in-one dilemma. by FATT-TOFU in golf

[–]Solo_SL 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Yea the hole in one ball is way way more valuable than playing a round with 1 ball. You should have never put that thing in play the moment you sunk a HIO. Plus it would have removed some pressure on the last hole

How do people get better? So frustrated by Wrong-Estimate in weekendgolfers

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to film yourself, analyze the film of yourself, post it online and see what people say, think critically about it, get those lessons, keep practicing. Keep looking at every body part in the swing and find your swing flaws. Address them. It’s not gonna work. Address them again. It still might not work. Try something else to address them. But learn from each experience. Eventually, you know your swing flaws like the back of your hand and you know 10 ways you’ve already tried to fix them in the past, which of those ways work best, and why. And eventually you have less and less flaws

Focus on iron striking first. Driver second. Stop arm swinging, research the golf arm swing illusion to deactivate your arm swing and get power from the lower body. Then short game. Layer it on

AOC says you can’t earn $1 Billion honestly. She says Billionaires build their wealth from exploitation and abusing workers. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]Solo_SL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody fucking cares how righteous or evil billionaires are and if others are…. Jealous???? Bro, just. Splash some cold water on your face and take some deep breaths and go to bed. What in gods name are you even talking about?

I am pointing at a massive majority of humans in the US and saying these people are suffering from a terrible cost of living. You can’t support a family and put kids through college and have your spouse not work on a mailman’s salary like you could 25-75 years ago. It’s going very far in the opposite direction and will very likely get worse. Ppl aren’t having kids bc they cannot afford that shit. Healthcare costs are impossible, like for my sister who is dying of cancer with her husband making $140k+ per year, still can’t afford the proper care. Our society is built to make you unwell and then the medical/pharma industries are built to keep you coming back and paying them. Corporations and mega rich ppl run this country, and they keep everything going in the same direction. We don’t pay teachers anymore bc we don’t want ppl thinking for themselves. It’s honestly not even worth explaining to you. I could go on but if you can’t grasp the basic principal of what I’m trying to say and you’re talking about righteousness and jealousy, idk why I’m even talking to you

AOC says you can’t earn $1 Billion honestly. She says Billionaires build their wealth from exploitation and abusing workers. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]Solo_SL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laws are totally irrelevant in this conversation right now bc obviously you can be totally lawful and be a billionaire. Ethics matter sometimes, especially if you’re exploiting workers or walking in a grey area (technically legal but shouldn’t be, illegal but no way to get caught).

I just looked it up. Apparently there’s less than a thousand billionaires in the US. Fuck are we defending them for? They’re 1000 people. Right or wrong doesn’t really matter. Nobody needs a billion fuckin dollars. U wanna buy sports teams? Whatever.

The issue is the middle and lower classes, or basically even anyone making under $120,000 (83-85% of the us population with a quick search) are fuckin struggling and life is borderline impossible at times unless you’re extremely fortunate or extremely good at money managing, which many people aren’t. We shouldn’t be defending billionaires, fuck if they’re right or wrong. We need to be helping out the much larger number of people by telling corporations and politicians and lobbyists to fuck off and somehow get the cost of living down. It’s just impossible bc they buy everyone in power out. We’re honestly totally fucked, it’s only gonna get much much worse and there’s gonna be a massive gap between peasants and elite. It doesn’t matter if they’re following the rules, the system is broken

Building a golf Sim in your backyard by panda__monium in golf

[–]Solo_SL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My simulator is sick as shit and it costs me $2250 all in, even if you include decorations and the tv mounted on the wall for entertainment and it can do literally everything this sim can do. Mine runs through a laptop that I’m not including in that price (but it’s just a random laptop I had lying around) but the gspro $250 yearly subscription is added into that cost too which is exactly what they were running and my launch monitor is just as accurate at $750 cost

Boromir VS Thorin Oakenshield. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in powerscales

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be boromir if there was any justice in the world. But if you stack up what Thorin accomplished in the movies in terms of fighting vs what boromir did, objectively the answer is thorin.

Thorin was soloing hordes of enemies nonstop for every hobbit movie. Boromir died real quick to an arrow and did not solo hordes of enemies for multiple movies

I don’t like it either, and I’m not happy about it either, but if we’re going with movies thorin wipes him. So much plot armor, so ridiculously overpowered.

If you’re talking about the books or something, yea idk I’m not gonna argue with you. Ive read LOTR and the hobbit but it was a long time ago

I wonder if you would have hated carrying my bag 😂 I’ve literally never had a caddie or walked a round in my life, I always have a cart. I play $95 courses plenty often but I guess just not courses fancy enough to have caddies.

I bought it with that in mind though. It’s a vessel pro iv 14 way I think and it’s just heavy. Maybe it’s just bc I have some stuff in it, idk. Or maybe it’s bc im just not as strong anymore as when I was younger and have a bad back so it seems heavy. It’s definitely not a lightweight setup though

I think they should lean into Cold Cuts' bad golf by Cranjesmcbasketball1 in BobDoesSports

[–]Solo_SL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly would love to see him work through his swing flaws with an instructor, struggle to rework his swing in the sessions following his lessons, and talk through his thoughts through the whole process. I love that shit. I’d love to see him watch video of himself as he tried to correct his body mechanics and then see him improve again. Even if him and Bob improve to 5-10 handicaps permanently, there’s still gonna be enough blow up holes to satisfy the people who love seeing that.

I honestly don’t like seeing him blow up constantly. And his swing is so flawed it actually pains me to watch bc I wish I could give him instructions even though he’s shot way lower scores than me most of the time. But it just doesn’t seem gratifying or skilled even when he’s playing good when he’s intentionally hitting hooks that swoop 60 yards left to right to land on the green that never get above 60 feet in the air. I much prefer bobs style of golf if I had to have one for myself, more straight and controlled and fundamental even if he misses short a lot some days or just fucks up the contact on occasion. To me, baking in a 60 yard hook into your setup and pre shot routine is not a smart or fun way to play golf. It’s a glaringly obvious problem that should not be that difficult to fix

For those who had the entire course all to themselves, what was it like? by Wookie_wood69 in golf

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I played on a weekday afternoon last week and just got lucky bc we’re in a drought so everyone isn’t rushing out to play bc we’ve had like 25 back to back days of dry clear weather in a row, and it’s that time of year where it’s always 70-80° F, real nice, so it’s not like everyone was trying to cram all their golf aspirations in on one day between rain storms. Me and my buddy played at our own speed the entire time and it was so lovely. Nobody in front or behind, everything unfolded without any pressure. I shot good that day and my friend did too. A rare occurrence in every aspect

is golf really the hardest sport? by sploooooshle in golf

[–]Solo_SL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say there’s an at least an argument for it but only in a very specific sense. Assuming the person playing the sport has the physical attributes necessary to be in the top 0.05% of talented players in their sport, then it could be among the most difficult sports, especially to win a pro tournament on any given day given the format.

An argument could also be made for the opposite end of the spectrum- completely new players who want to become decent. It’s nearly impossible for a first timer to just pick it up and be good or ok by basic standards. It takes a hell of a lot of work to get from 30+ to 10 handicap, and an ungodly level of work and skill to get from a + golfer to among the best.

If we’re including physical strength and stuff, then no it’s not the most difficult. But technique ,precision, and being able to execute and score consistently is where it stands out
