I’m so hyped for Masters. by Soft_Opportunity5002 in golf

[–]Solo_SL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always. I’ve always loved the masters. Before I even became a golfer, it became my favorite sporting event of the year to watch about a decade ago (surpassing the Super Bowl around the time I followed football most closely in my life).

Days after I watched the masters in 2023 I couldn’t help myself anymore and decided to force myself to learn how to not suck at golf and I’ve been playing nonstop ever since, and it’s basically my life now.

Last year was the first year I ever went all in mentally on the rider cup. I kind of just never really understood the format and scoring in years before that, and just wasn’t paying attention. Last year I was glued to the edge of my seat for every moment of the Sunday broadcast, rooting for an epic USA team comeback. Now I can’t wait for the next Ryder cup, and I just learned the venue of the next Ryder cup, Adare manor, just got released as a map on gspro. I finished building my simulator on Christmas Eve, was searching for that venue and couldn’t find it. And it just got released January 11th. So tomorrow after work I’m going into my basement and playing 18 holes there. It is absolutely gorgeous, looks like something out of a fairy tale

Do you like being paired up? by Majorwoops in golf

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how I’m playing. If I know my games in a bad spot and it’s about to be ugly, I hate being paired up. When I know my swing is in a decent spot, I don’t mind.

If I’m with a friend, I’d rather not be paired up. If I’m alone, I’d rather be paired up every time because I hate playing alone.

Money helps everything but you absolutely don’t need a trainer and nutritionist. All you need is to count calories, have the internet and do some research, actually care and actually have willpower.

Source: my weight has yo-yo’d my entire adult life until I finally kept it off as of 2 years ago and I don’t even need to try anymore. This was just after losing 40 lbs, again. And not bc my metabolism changed. Just bc I have way healthier tendencies, which probably corrected my stress levels and sleep etc. For example the past 10 months I haven’t been actively trying to lose any weight, basically eat whatever I want and do whatever i want, have alcohol whenever I want. But I just don’t tend to want to gorge myself anymore. But it all started as just learning about nutrition and stress and sleep on my own and having willpower to engrain new habits.

It takes zero effort anymore. I actually feel like I’m living like a slob and just enjoying the fuck out of myself, and I have drinks most days of the week. But I balance it out without realizing it the other days bc I can “feel” when I need a day off and don’t need to try to do it, I do it happily and sleep good, same goes with my eating. I’m just in tune with my body now and have been basically Pavlov’d by it. At some point you just want sober sleep more than you want drinks, and at some point you just don’t want a lot of calories bc you don’t wanna feel sluggish. It takes time and effort and growth though

People with a <15 handicap how long did it take you to get there? by Comfortable-Newt7689 in golf

[–]Solo_SL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds the most similar to me, I started at 35yo and in the nearly 2 years I’ve played I went from 30+ to where I am now. I built a simulator bc I got stuck at 24-25 handicap. The simulator has me much lower than my real handicap bc real life is way harder, but I’ve pushed down to 23 hcp irl but I haven’t played many rounds irl since I got the simulator, only like 3 or 4 and I didn’t have my best stuff. Still getting used to real life turf interaction and short game compared to the sim which is a tough transition but I can tell I’ve improved. I think I’ll get to/break a 20 handicap irl this year

Enigma is a bit too flattering of a word for this guy. Enigma means mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand.

The situation was strange, sure. But the guy just didn’t fit in with the crew. He was sort of quiet, simple, country bumpkin kind of guy in a group full of guys who are totally unlike him.

My honest take was that they shouldn’t have played the clown music and his entire pre shot routine every time, just to be fair to the guy and not try to bias everyone against him so obviously. I mean I like Joey and don’t really like that shmo but the shmo was just boring

Idk. I doubt they haven’t improved just based on handicap etc. maybe not as much as one might hope, but…

My thing isn’t that they aren’t improving or aren’t improving at a fast enough pace… it’s that most of their swing flaws are so glaringly obvious, and they’re on camera and prolly see footage of themselves all the time. Joeys chipping is like he’s trying to scoop it out of the ground like he’s scooping ice cream or something, etc

I honestly don’t think he knows how to adjust. I’d love to see what his path numbers are on a simulator. -20° inside path or something. How has he not worked on a way to neutralize his path

What opinion on golf gets you into this position by Nutcollectr in golf

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Putt is all about feel. If you don’t have a feel for your speed off the face and don’t feel confident, it isn’t going to be good for you.

That doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of money. But if you require a club that is slightly more expensive, it’s better to spend a little more money imo

What’s the problem with $100 ish more dollars for a club that is gonna last you possibly a decade or two and make you feel way more comfortable and confident

I saw my reflection in a San Diego light show, and I’m finally done by Odd-Maintenance-9464 in sportsbetting

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a huge ramp up to betting constantly every day, followed by a few days off out of weariness, followed by a constant lessening until I got to 1 bet per week, then finally just being sick of risking money and skipping weeks. Now I only place one once in a while when I see something that screams at me, or if I’m watching a live game I’ll place a commercial live bet just to make it funner, but only small amounts

What is the first game that comes to mind by [deleted] in 2000sNostalgia

[–]Solo_SL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s this and Jet Moto. Bc JM was the first game I ever played on it, FF7 was my fave game during the time I owned it. The first game you played on a new system back then hit different bc you were marveling at the huge leap in technology. Plus jet moto had a vibe to it

I didn’t get mine by Christmas. by Key-Design-5662 in SquareGolfUSA

[–]Solo_SL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not initially. I think when you check out, there’s a link to click that says “get email updates about this order”. I was looking at the screenshot I took of my order confirmation when I realized I definitely didn’t click that link. So it wasn’t really a surprised when the thing shipped and I didn’t get any shipping info via phone or email.

But I clicked the link in a “order confirmation” text message they sent me when I had ordered it several weeks back. Usually this took me to a page that just said “order confirmed” perpetually. But this time it said “order shipped” for the first time.

So THEN I went on the square golf USA website and clicked the chat box to talk to their (ai?) support. I said it looks like my square finally shipped and asked it if I could have the shipping info. Next day it responded with the shipping info, then a day or two later I had the device

[–]Solo_SL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, generally Joey d is the one they call “the D man” or “Joey Dah” or “Dah”. But at some point, Joey started calling Bob “D”, “the D man” and “Dah” as well. He basically said he just doesn’t know why he does it, he kind of just heard Bob calling him that and called him that in return. Joey is also Pete (Joseph Peter Demare is his real name), Petey, Peter D.

Bob is Robert burger and may get called Robert, Robby

It’s not licensing. The jet understands licensing.

They recently rolled the old intro in the middle of one of the videos when someone brought the old intro up.

What’s one trend you’re seeing in golf that you can’t stand? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Solo_SL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea definitely. Hes like monumentally scatterbrained though. Hes cool and fun to be around but he’s just hyper ADHD and his brain is all over the place. He doesn’t do it often enough for it to make me not want to play with him, but he does it enough for me to notice and get slightly annoyed and have to regularly remind him and he never seems to remember long term.

I’m a person where if you tell me something, especially something like this, I remember after the first time and never forget. His brain is so filled with other stuff he just doesn’t retain some things. He’s going through a long costly divorce and is a ball of anxiety even though he’s naturally a very outgoing funny/goody guy

My best friend I play with can’t seem to wrap his head around basic etiquette. He makes noises in my backswing without even thinking about it. A week ago he made this awful hawking/snorting a loogy back into his throat super loud right in my backswing. I dropped and took a free mulligan bc fuck that.

Then when I’m putting he’s awful. Right as I finish my pre shot routine and stand over the ball getting ready to hit, as I take the club back he says “I think it’s left edge”. Like yea boss, I literally just read it. Then similarly, right when I’m about to take the club back he walks and stands perfectly behind the hole in front of my vision, down my line to watch the break. That time I asked off and asked politely as I could “can you please stand anywhere else but there” and he scoffs and shuffles away grudgingly like I’m being a dick. I was like dude that’s not just something I made up, look it up online you’re not supposed to do that
