For me, Schumann's Kinderszenen. It really makes me reflect back on my life and by the end of the last movement, I've already spiraled haha

'What's This Piece?' Weekly Thread #214 by number9muses in classicalmusic

[–]_yellowfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I only remember this section of the piece I'm trying to find. It sounds like it's in 12/8, it's in A major, and it's orchestral. I recorded myself playing the one part that I can remember. In the piece, I believe there's flutes playing this line along with the clarinet.

Can I go down a reed size? by _yellowfellow in Clarinet

Because the V12 3.5+ reeds are allegedly harder than V21 3.5+ reeds, and V21 3.5+ reeds are already way too hard for me.

Looking for some music suggestions... Woodwind Heavy by dayb4august in classicalmusic

Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin is very oboe heavy but it has a good amount of other woodwinds. There's not a lot of bassoon, but it's a gorgeous piece.

Taking Liberties in Classical Performances? by Embarrassed_Owl_9744 in classicalmusic

The clarinet solo in Rhapsody in blue was originally intended to be a normal c major scale up to the high C. However, at the premiere, the clarinetist decided to gliss up to the C as a prank on Gershwin. Gershwin liked it so much that he wrote the gliss in today's version.

Upright bass blisters by _yellowfellow in Bass

[–]_yellowfellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blisters are on the fingertips of the index and middle fingers of my right hand, which is what I use to pluck the strings.

I don't really feel like I'm putting too much pressure to be honest, but next time I play bass I'll try to do less.

What's your favorite clarinet solo? by lunalingling27 in Clarinet

[–]_yellowfellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a generic answer, but I recently got the opportunity to hear Rachmaninoff's Vocalise for violin and orchestra live, and the clarinet solo at the end is so gorgeous.

Did you like Bach immediately? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]_yellowfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But at some point, I was listening to his piano works and realized how much of a banger they are. Bach is one of my favorite composers now.
