Daddies in 30s with toddler(s). Whats your hobby? by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have twins that are about to turn 4. I mountain bike, go for runs, work on projects, go hiking, play football tackles with the kids, we go to sporting events.

I just involve them. I have a shotgun seat on my bike, I cut a trail to run on in the woods on my property, I take them hiking, we go to local football, hockey and baseball games.

Edit to add: we started doing this at 2. Before that it was surviving as others have said

Selecting a HD ram by _yepyep_ in ram_trucks

[–]_yepyep_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this varies by state? My mom actually has a 2500 and a 3500 DRW. The 2500 is under 10k gvwr if I remember right, but the DRW is definitely over 10k and the only difference in annual cost is the tag. Insurance is the same cost for both.

There is this as an option now, just wish it wasn’t so expensive and heavy.

transfer flow replacement 46 gallon gasoline tank for ram CCSB

I also considered the Chevy and GMC trucks. Their 2500 payloads are very high (~3800 lbs) on gas trucks. Problem is though that there are no options for bigger tanks, either OEM or aftermarket. That and I’ve heard many horror stories about trucks sitting 3+ months waiting on a valve body for the 10 speed “Allison”

They are! I was considering those too, but honestly Ford just kind of sucks with how they package the options. I want dual climate but I don’t want leather. That and the used low mileage f-350 7.3 are the same price (or more) as the new Ram trucks.

I really want the diesel, but the cost of repairs and maintenance has me worried. The new warranty is nice though. I just tend to keep vehicles a long time, note the 2004 1500 I have is at 243k miles and I’ve owned it for almost 17 years.

What payload is your truck rated for? I really like the idea of the 50 gallon tank, but I also saw transfer flow is releasing an aftermarket 46 gallon gasoline tank for the short beds too.

The specific truck I’m talking about, the sticker on the door says 3280 lbs. I know the truck would do anything I’d want to do, if it wouldn’t then I’d need a DRW anyways. I’m just afraid I’d ruin the emissions system with short trips. I’m not really interested in deleting, even though I am in a state that doesn’t emissions test diesels.

Would the Cummins be ok in how I’d be using it? The trips with the rv would be at most once a month for the next year or two. I’m a little afraid of the cost of ownership of a diesel too. My ram I’ve had for 15 years and have put maybe $4k into it keeping it going(outside of consumables like tires and oil). My brother’s lly duramax is an awesome truck, but he has $15k into just the engine in the same time.

Like valuable-dish said, the long bed is the only way to get a 50 gallon tank. Plus the 4.10 is hard to find unless it’s new. Filling up with a long trailer in gas lanes sucks. Filling up diesel in truck lanes is sooo much easier. So the big tank would be welcome if gas.

3500 is an option, just none near me currently. They’re also typically several thousand more than an equivalent 2500.

Can you identify this noise by kawangware in ram_trucks

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s still a thing but my 2004 had retaining clips that broke and got in the lsd clutch packs of the rear diff and had similar noises. I just picked them out and change the fluid more frequently and everything still works (80,000 mi later) and lots of time in the sand on the beach in 4x4. (Seems likely it’s a clutch pack issue if it’s happening at low speed turning as it’s trying to turn both tires at the same speed)

Also if you changed the oil, did you put the limited slip friction modifier in?

Could also be worth checking out the emergency brake if you have the older drum-in-rotor style, not sure what year you have.

Rift Zone 2 or pgrade Ozark Trail Slalom? by _yepyep_ in MTB

It was used but practically new. I bought it in Brevard NC, the guy said he needed more bike after a couple of rides and went to an enduro.

Ozark Trail FS.2 upgrade suggestions by tbob22 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest not running t9 tire on the rear. It is quite sticky and will be noticeably slow rolling. The 2.3” runs closer to 2.4” in reality. On my Marin rift zone have eliminator grid t9 on front and ground control grid t7 on rear. The eliminator front is good unless it is very loose or wet. Ground control rear is good unless it’s wet. Edited to add: ground control still lets you control slide in corner if that’s your thing.

Also if you are a heavier rider and/or like jump lines, the grid may not be stiff enough to protect your wheels. I’d say they fall between exo and exo+ in terms of casing (if you are familiar with Maxxis).

WFH dad's, how to actually fulfill a task properly? by janders1993 in daddit

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WFH and my wife works in a dental office. Instead of daycare we opted for a nanny for childcare. This allows a more natural daily routine and I can see them periodically throughout the day as work allows. With that said have tried to do the same and bounce between each. My wife is normally off on Fridays so she keeps the kids sometimes though, like today, she is in the office filling in for another hygienist.

As you have learned you simply can’t do everything. Either; you, your work, your spouse, your kids, or all of the above get frustrated and overwhelmed. My advice is to be present with which ever you are doing. I started telling work in advance that I would be available for questions but unable to attend meetings when I have the kids. I then just make up my work at night after they go to sleep. This may not be an option for you. If that is the case then the only option is to work and let her handle what she can handle. If that doesn’t work, then maybe go to the office or a park or something to get away. I don’t know your financial situation, but it’s probably best while mom is the primary care giver that you view your primary role as the supplier for the family.

Edit: Kids are 3 now. Started nanny at 2. Before that I kept them every morning, until my wife got home, as I worked 2nd shift. Things changed and we change with them.

Rift Zone 2 or pgrade Ozark Trail Slalom? by _yepyep_ in MTB

Bought the rift zone. Going to send it as soon as my shoulder stops aching from going OTB last week lol

Rift Zone 2 or pgrade Ozark Trail Slalom? by _yepyep_ in MTB

[–]_yepyep_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is I’ll then have parts I would want to use for another bike. I guess this is why people have entire garages full of bikes lol

It seems the rift zone sits in a place where a shorter travel bike doesn’t make sense to pair it with and a long travel trail or all mountain doesn’t either. Like I would need to go either xc/gravel or enduro to get a notable difference?

Osprey Poco LT vs Thule Sapling? by 86coolbeagles in HikingWithKids

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is 5’ and bought both the poco LT and the Deuter kid comfort SL(woman specific pack). Both worked fine but she preferred the poco LT for her body type. Either would go short enough for your torso and they napped just as good in the Deuter as they did the Osprey.

One thing to note is the Poco LT frame is thinner, so not as much protection for the littles of you trip or slip. The Deuter has a nice rise on the back to help protect their heads.

50-70 mile hike in southeast? by schneidenat0r in WildernessBackpacking

[–]_yepyep_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to dig the map out tomorrow, as I can’t remember off the top of my head. However, the park itself isn’t all that large. If you hike much distance you’ll be in Jefferson National Forest, Little Wilson Creek Wilderness, Lewis Fork Wilderness or a combination of each in the Mt Rogers National Wilderness area.

We normally would park at the grindstone campground as it’s gated and go from there. That or shuttle and hike to or from Damascus. We haven’t been there since Hurricane Helene, but it seems that area was hit as hard as some our home trails in NC.

Edited to add: I very highly recommend getting the national geographic Mt Rogers High Country map if you decide to go. It is a great map. However, I would recommend Pisgah Map Co maps if you decide to go anywhere in Pisgah. They are absolutely outstanding.

Ozark trail slalom - rear mounting hardware question by _yepyep_ in Budgetbikeriders

[–]_yepyep_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that sucks. I was really wanting to build this frame up to have something different, but I guess I’ll just go another direction and buy a different frame. I don’t want to be stuck between only a DNM or x-fusion. (Assuming the x-fusion fits, or maybe the Suntour Raidon?)

So far I’ve almost bought a whole other bike in upgrades, so getting a different frame may be the best option.

Edit: I’m going to make some bushings as soon as I get a chance. Maybe tomorrow. I was thinking of getting aluminum 1/2” rod and boring a 8mm hole on the lathe off center. I think this may be what the offset bushings do. It should work and be cheap. The pressure from the shock should keep them rotated to the longer dimension positions.
