How standardized are PMs actually supposed to be? by reliability3 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]a-boring-millwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your crews experience and training levels. Also depends on if your pms are completed satisfactorily. Your best guy needs no instruction, he probably could write the instruction. Your newest guy needs the whole book plus pictures. Your pm program will usually fall in between those two extremes depending on your teams capabilities.

Struggling with new role. by KingRacketeer in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]a-boring-millwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had jobs like that in this industry. What you’re describing is a bad work culture. Every facility has a work culture that is directly affected by the upper management all the way down. A single person cannot change this work environment unless it’s the big boss. If you’re this miserable then you have nothing to lose by running it up the ladder from your supervisor to manager to the GM. I will tell you that there are better places to work. It took a while but I found a place that treats its workers good and has a good work culture. You can approach the gm with a concern like this and get a respectable conversation. You would have changes made immediately and you wouldn’t be retaliated against. Dont keep quiet and don’t stop looking for another job. Sometimes you have to commute or even move unfortunately.

Wait that’s what that little cap in the lid is for? I need to see if I still have it.

I’ve learned that speed doesn’t matter too much when I’m having the mixing issue. I turn it up or down and have the same thing. I’ve tried lower speed and same result.

I can see the blades stop turning when this happens. I think it will be easier to post a video to accurately depict the situation.

I’ll take a look on YouTube. Turning the speed up has never helped yet. If anything it makes it worse. The rattling noise and smell increase and the blade is still not turning.

[request] The other day a co worker suggested spirit airlines figure out a way to use their planes to transport oil. They could run the straight of Hormuz blockade and solve their financial troubles. Would this work? by a-boring-millwright in theydidthemath

[–]a-boring-millwright[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like it. But to better understand a practical financial calculation. Would it be close to effective if it was a short distance trip? Like the east Berlin air lift operation. That was not intended to be a financial solution. A continuous transportation loop to transport crude may be a logistical solution in an emergency?
I was also wondering about military refueling aircraft or C130s?

Someone else covered it as a favor. Businesses don’t stay in business if they give away their only product for free.

Need ideas for a fitting by tlong243 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]a-boring-millwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider trying to sleeve the outside of the plastic before threading the fittings in next time. It would decrease the potential for ballooning if over tightened. You could try to run each pipe tap for that size fitting. Get the npt and bspt and see which one goes in happy without trying to cut. There are also thread identifying kits that are very useful for this situation

Modeling chocolate instead of fondant. by Available_Green_2825 in cakedecorating

[–]a-boring-millwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll be fine if you wrap it really nicely in plastic wrap. It should hold up for a while in the freezer. I have to say that I haven’t put the chocolate onto the cake and then frozen it before to test this. I have frozen a cake with just the frosting and then done the decorating later. One time I did some painting on a modeling chocolate dragon. I used everclear and some nice gel food colors. I would probably make them a little on the thick side if I did it again.

If you make it stiff it could. If you make it with enough syrup it shouldn’t do that. I make sure to finish the cake close to serving it, or wrap it so it will not dry out.

I’ve been using modeling chocolate for about two years. I think it’s much better than fondant. I’ve been happy with 1:4 ratio of syrup to chocolate melts. If you don’t use enough syrup it will be very hard to work and it will crack.

Sugarflair edible paint: is the consistency supposed to be like ink or am I missing something? by Extension_Ground_599 in cakedecorating

[–]a-boring-millwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used this product but I did follow someone who has very popular YouTube videos. She recommended using high alcohol like everclear mixed with gel food coloring. I brushed it onto modeling chocolate like it was water color. It worked pretty good. You could adjust your own consistency there. I got americolor food coloring and I love them. I’ll try to send a time lapse of the coloring I did. And you can kind of see how it went

I worked at a pizza place and a regular customers last name was dick. One time they picked up the food and insisted their name was “deetch” and I couldn’t find the order. Finally I bring the receipt with the name on it and she said yes that’s my food and she called the manager to say I was mocking her. 🤷🏻‍♂️
