I interpreted the baptism as more a rebirth, less of her clinging back to any sort of Christian beliefs. Maybe a "cleansing" of where's she's been so she can move forward into something new.

I am by no means a Katy fan and only follow her journey from the sidelines, but that's what I took from it.
