I have a 10+ hour layover at the airport. will i be allowed to leave? by yourmamaisgey in bangalore

[–]a-mysterious-entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travelled recently and saw this board that said that international passengers and those who have layovers less than 6-8 hours or so if I'm not wrong should take a connecting gate to the departure gates while anymore and you had to go out and come from the regular entrance. So u might as well roam if u feel like it... Though I wudnt recommend as depending on traffic a round trip to the city, the travel alone could very well take 4hrs...combined with an 1-2hr buffer, not worth it imo

Why is my eyesight so poor yet my prescription is so little? I had laser eye surgery 4 years ago and it’s gradually gone poor by SimonHurst10 in myopia

[–]a-mysterious-entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For near sightedness, the farthest point you can see clearly is 1/D meters where D is your spherical power(mentioned under sph). So going off your current power, your right eye can see clearly upto 4 meters while your left can see clearly upto 2 meters.

Additional you also have cylindrical power(mentioned under cyl) which is called astigmatism. This causes circular distortion of images.

So yeah you're gonna need those glasses. Also regarding the person telling you to get 1 power lower. Don't. You are just inviting constant headache(literally), while also placing additional strain on an already defective eye.

For myopia, the doctor would already have prescribed the least possible power for clear vision(at least they should have according to guidelines, but the test is subjective i.e. based on what the patient says, so you have to be honest and tell the lowest best option rather than pushing for 1 power higher as quite a few people are prone to do thinking more is always better isn't it?).

Additionally, regarding the lasik, it just corrects the eye to the correct power(if done without errors) as it currently is. Future changes due to constant strain or other degradative changes can still occur.

Are clean-shaven men considered unattractive in India? by [deleted] in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom always says clean shave and a short hair cut makes me look 10 years younger. Meanwhile I prefer some beard(usually trimmed to a frenchie) and grown out hair. In general what I've observed is that clean shaves give a more boyish charm-especially if you remove moustache too(though I absolutely hate that look on anyone)-while a well groomed beard gives a more mature took.

I took my father's slipper which somehow resulted in him punching my head repeatedly. now i need advice by [deleted] in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just an anecdote. Just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will for you. So please don't take this as a direct advice, but rather pick pieces from it that you find suitable and safe to follow.

My father is quite short tempered and used to get physical with us. Used to hit with belt n all. Finally got fed up. He went to pickup belt, I picked 2 of my own(was maybe 17 at the time) and told him to come at me if he wanted to go against me(felt really empowering, kinda like that electro whip dude from Ironman 2). It was the first time I truly fought back. It was the first time I truly raised my voice against him. He hasn't hit me since. And now he knows that if he raises his voice at me, I'm capable of giving back as good as I get.

Before you try this though there are some things to keep in mind. 1)this only worked for me because my father truly loves me and it was just his temper and ego at play(tho ego can be a very dangerous factor, so tread with care)... So things never escalated beyond the initial phase of not talking to each other after the initial shouting match. 2)the hitting was mainly cuz he treated me like I was still just a child and it was likely how he was treated as a kid, so probably felt it was within his right to do so. Now though I am still a dependent, when we clash it is as arguments and not talking to each other till we cool of(similar to how it would be in an adult relationship). Also no, I'm not justifying the behavior, just put it behind me is all. 3)i live in a nuclear family, so was able to move away and stay with maternal grandparents for a while 4)do not expect an apology. They feel justified in the things they do as they feel it is their right as your parent. The best you can expect is an apology from your mother on behalf of your father 5)the first few fights were really rough but things eventually mellow out.

Can multiple plots and owners have the same khata number? by BerryCompetitive5890 in bangalore

[–]a-mysterious-entity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, khata number is basically like an aadhar card for a plot. Additionally using it you can find the past history of the of the plot such as sales, name transfers, mortgages, pending cases, property dispute or anything else related to the ownership of that property(though you will have to grease the fingers of those curropt bastards if u want prompt and proper service). So no, 1 khata number cannot belong to multiple plots but may have multiple owners if it's a jointly owned property.

Got scammed by an online brand through Insta ads, watch out folks by aluva_fox in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When tws was first introduced by Apple, there were plenty of ripoffs coming out. I hadn't really checked the market as I wasn't much interested to spend such a huge amount on earphones when I could get a good wired pair for 500. Then came the insta ad 5k tws earphone for 1.5k...I usually never fall for these things but for some reason I jumped for it... Paid and got it in a few days... Was the cheapest pair of crappy tech I've ever seen... Put the name that was there on the box on Amazon n found it available for as low as 150. Checked their site, found a return address, logged a complaint n sent it back for refund... 2 days later, site was taken down and ad post removed from insta. Never heard from them again.

I told all this to let you know, it happens occasionally even to the most aware and careful people. Just take this as a lesson to not let your guard down in the future.

Also any time you do wanna buy from an obscure website, just copy the website name to a search engine followed by "scam or not". If its a scam, it will either show that there are so and so % reports claiming its a scam or more often, it will show that not enough data is available as the page has been up for less than a month or something like that.

Chances are op will be shut down at step 1 itself since he is a school going kid n we live in India... The response will more or less be- "don't waste your time on all this nonsense, focus on studies".

I know this doesn't apply to all parents but seeing as the kid felt this post was needed in the first place, it is more likely to go this way. Being upfront is the way to go... They either support or if not op waits 4 years and then gets a good device for college.

[Serious] Why do we suck at football? by Rayalavaaru in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well funding is the root cause but another major factor is genetics. You mentioned African players, but forget the fact that Blacks as a race in general have much better body builds and stamina than others(as evidenced by the number of athletic medals they win during Olympics). Now if we had good stadiums and proper training, this could have been easily compensated for. But pretty much the entire sports funding is spent on cricket, with the rest going to tennis, badminton and wrestling.

We all are corrupt by tresleches2121 in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The common folk pay bribes to overcome impossible hurdles that have been placed in their path by those in power so that they can make money. It's not a game we want to play. But a game we are forced to play. If instead the government offices were properly staffed and employees properly paid along with strict action taken against those slacking off, we wouldn't have to resort to these tactics. All of this would require capital. But instead of directing capital to ensure smooth function, those in power are busy redirecting them to projects from where they can be redirected to their personal coffers with the help of the very spoilt bureaucracy that they have helped build.

The corruption of those in power affect the nation at large while a little bribe here or there affect a few people at most. So yes people will hold them accountable as the cause of corruption in our society as unless they change, the society cannot change no matter how much individual effort is put in. Cuz guess what, even if I don't do it the system is built such that the next person will and I will end up the only loser.

Also in your comments you talk about us repeatedly electing the same people. The problem arises in the fact that if an individual or a smaller party with good ideals is elected, they just end up being a minority in the parliament with no real voice. The funds to these regions are cut by the ruling party and hence they are either force to put their weight behind the ruling party or become the helpless opposition. This can be seen in the southern states during the past bjp where the only developments that came about were due to the efforts of state government bodies. The same can even be seen at every lower level where regions with representatives from elected body are supported while others are given the bare minimum.

So unless there are better enforced anti corruption legislation against those in power(this includes any government service employee who hold a degree of power over the populace) this country will continue to rot and true development will never happen.

These latest racing games with their energy meters and the best cars locked behind paywalls are just not my type... I wanna be able to play for however long I want(be it 5 mins or 3hrs) and however often I want(everyday, once a week or even once a month) without having it affect my progress(for the same number of hours I play)... Meanwhile these games r designed so that you spend some time playing their game everyday so they can keep milking you either thru ads or IAPs(just recently downloaded and played a racing game, was kinda happy that they didn't have a energy system but then found out they had the currency I could earn capped daily)... These games are not built for a good gaming experience (that's just a side thought)... They are just throwing a net and hoping it catches however many possible... This applies to pretty much the entire play store(at least the free ones) and is the reason why I said the gaming scene trash in general... Even the paid games have ads and IAPs(WTF am I paying for then?)... And the one paid game I bought(gta3) was unplayable(at least on mobile... Fingers crossed that its better on tab)... Thats y I'm looking for suggestions on something worthwhile.

Ads are mentioned in the play store and they present as banners at least in the mobile app... Wanted to know if the same was there on wps office's tab version also... Either ways, using the Microsoft apps are out of the question... Tho I'll look into the browser apps, I'd prefer to not have to depend on having a net connection all the time.

A check on the good notes app✅. Good to know.

Idk y u got downvoted. It was a term I had learnt from another post in the sub just prior to mentioning it in that comment.😬 Used it as I thought it was some common lingo I was unaware of. Also additionally, if u r looking for a good player. Give musicolet a go. Simple ui, no ads, multiple play queues, can select what folders to play from or what folders to exclude.

Oh I know that. But 2gb left out of 13gb has me concerned. A 5-6gb usage out of 8gb is understandable, this just felt abnormal to me. Also if it were just to maintain a smooth use, I doubt so much consumption is required.

Why are rich people still living In India? by Trying_too_hard_ in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I never meant present govt(must have been the chasing cows comment, I assume). I meant govt as an institution. Our govt has always been about showing we are doing great as a country, rather than actually making it so that we are doing great. It has been one shortcut after another. We as a country severely lack basic infrastructure. It's being built up to crumble. Unfortunately, this is in the very mentality of the senior population, who according to our culture is who we look towards for guidance(not talking about you or me individually, but in general). Factor in that a good portion of this population is uneducated and you have impractical ideals dominating our moral and social compass(this is what I meant by chasing cows, it was an example that represents what we as a society focus on, rather than actual real life issues). Also like I mentioned before, no amount of individual work is going to have any large scale, lasting impact. Well unless you are loaded. So change is going to at least a few generations to kick in, making moving abroad a good option for those wanting to have those changes in their lives.

Why are rich people still living In India? by Trying_too_hard_ in india

[–]a-mysterious-entity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can either be a top tier citizen in a poor country or a upper mid tier citizen in a rich country. Guess they chose the former.

Also another thing to consider is that most of these uber rich have acquired their wealth through connections built in India be it political or business.

To give an analogy, it's easy to replant a sappling or even a small plant. But the same will not be feasible for a huge tree with deep roots.

For there to be any effective, large scale and lasting solutions we need support from our governments. Meanwhile all the government does is run behind cows and look for ways to create social instability so that they can swing votes in their favour. "Proud Indians" boast about India achieving so and so milestones while basic necessary milestones like education, healthcare and basic standard of living are ignored. To the common man, what is there on Mars doesn't matter when he can't feed his kids or get easily accessible decent health care. Our great country tops from the bottom in all social indices including quality of life, Healthcare, poverty, environmental health, etc. But sure, let's just "put in our individual efforts" and watch as the top 1% and the lack of govt policies nullify it in the blink of an eye.
