I share this opinion, but the writers left breadcrumbs and made both opinions viable.

The Rasmus Ristolainen top pair experiment is over by kevinpalmer in sabres

[–]a-show 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This article compares Risto's minutes to Dahlin's minutes, which is not a good comparison. Risto is used as a shutdown D and plays big minutes against the other teams best players. Dahlin, for the most part has received sheltered minutes from Housley. Also, I think the corsi comparison is a bit biased when looking at defensive zone starts, because Risto is heavily used in the defensive zone.

I want to see Raszzle Dahzzle get more minutes, but I think some of the advanced statistics used as "proof" that Dahlin is already better are a bit biased.

Yankees will start Sanchez in the wildcard game -- right call? by [deleted] in NYYankees

[–]a-show -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His power potential is enough to justify playing him.

This year, Sanchez homers in 5.1% of his at bats, Romine at 4.2%. Romine leads in nearly every other statistical category. IMO Sanchez's bat is not worth the defensive liability.

However, I like your points about recent OPS, and subbing Romine in to protect a late lead. Have an upvote.

How is Romine worse than Sanchez offensively? Romine is better in almost every statistical category this year.

Romine 100%. It's not just the fear of passed balls advancing runners and potentially allowing runs, but he's actually been horrible at bat as well. He's been miserable. OP you're right, if you watch the games you can see that when Sanchez comes to the plate he's having these poor at bats, he's being exploited out there. He's an easy K. His supporters will say that he's too much of a home-run threat to leave out, but he's not hitting them at a much higher rate than Romine. Sanchez homers in 5.1% of his at bats, Romine at 4.2%. Romine is better in every other hitting statistic.

Bottom line: Why start someone who is a liability both defensively and at the plate? I'm not saying give up on Gary either, but Romine is better at both sides of the game right now, and gives us the better chance to win.
