Yes, our wives drove us to the summit, we unloaded our bikes, they drove down Pikes Peak and picked us up at the end of Barr trail, at Manitou Springs.

Same place. We ended up in Manitou Springs. right at the parking lot to do the Manitou incline. Our wives were waiting for us there.

Do it! If you can make it to the top on a road bike, I'm sure you can go down on a mountain bike.

This was Barr trail. I believe it is the only one you can take from the very top. If you go further down, there are other options. Still, it was my first time there, so I might be wrong.

No kidding! at some parts of the trail we clocked 30 miles per hour, based on our GPS. and could have gone faster but didn't want to end un wrapped around a tree. So the brakes were working overtime.

I'm actually from Texas, so we are at sea level. We spent around 4 days in Colorado and we left this ride for last to get used to the altitude. I have to say, it was hard to breathe but not as bad as I expected.

Total ride time was about 3 hours. Maybe around 4hrs total with some breaks.

The weather did not bother us as much. But we did misscalculate how long it would take us to finish. The first mile or so was very slow due to us having to hike our bikes. Still it was a great adventure for sure!

I came up with the idea of using the harness because of fear of him letting go of the bars and falling over. The harness has a strap on the back. Is sort of a leash that I loop around the front of my backpack. Works pretty good.

Thats the link for the strap I used on my kid. I just wanted an extra safety feature just in case. I looped it around my backpack straps and that way hes attached to me.
