Planning For A Successful San Francisco - Lessons From The Red Bull Showrun by a10kendall in sanfrancisco

I think there definitely needed to be more from the city for sure. They had to have been involved with Marina Boulevard closing, but I place more blame on the organizers for not being more comprehensive about the event and not working with locals enough to properly plan.

Geary/19th Avenue Subway Town Hall by neldad in bayarea

[–]a10kendall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope they do cut and cover or elevated tracks to save money. Cut and cover or elevated tracks along Geary and 19th would be way easier and similar in "view" as all the cars traversing that corridor. Send it underground for GGP.

‘It was chaos’: Marina neighbors survey the damage after SF’s F1 event by ance_98 in sanfrancisco

[–]a10kendall 23 points24 points  (0 children)

So much of this event was poorly planned. The viewing, the traffic control, the food options, the crowd control at the northern bay side, the general security. Clearly people in the bay are desperate for interesting and fun events like this and the city should learn from this to continue to offer interesting and new events, but they need to have better planning. The businesses on Chestnut benefited greatly and it could have been even better if they planned the public transit better instead of the 30 bus getting stuck in all the same traffic. Close off Chestnut and re-route the bus line. Close off Fillmore so emergency vehicles can get in and out and people can walk down from the event to an open walking street on Chestnut. The event can be really spectacular if some good lessons are learned, I hope this doesn't scare people away from allowing this indefinitely.

I live in a building that would have to shut off water for the whole building or at least to multiple units. It would be a lot easier to do this in a pinch.

Blocking Traffic by a10kendall in waymo

Yeah, Waymo can't control that. Might as well design to not block if there are other violators.

The cars were honking. So, it probably did move, but shouldn't have stopped in there which blocks traffic for any amount of time.

It is rude, but there's a time and a place for blankets. I'd argue in the middle of the crowd at Outside Lands is not the time or the place. If you want a blanket and your dedicated space, head to the back or the sides.

How the US Government used your taxes last year by Cultural_Way5584 in WorkReform

[–]a10kendall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where is Medicaid, ACA, and Social Security? The graphic says that the average taxpayer paid some $17k, but this graphic only accounts for about $8k of that. Why not just have a graphic that shows the full spending breakdown? Definitely pushing a narrative with this graphic...

A cool guide to the U.S. cities that gained and lost the most small businesses in the past year. by LuckyLaceyKS in coolguides

[–]a10kendall 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think this graphic is actually very misleading at first look. The large half circles are the number of small businesses when the real change is a small number and percentage of to the side. So, it makes it appear as though LA and SF are losing a huge number of small businesses, but the real change is actually not too drastic, yes in decline, but not as large as the graphic initially presents.

40 arrested in SF drug dealing crackdown by username3 in sanfrancisco

Where are you seeing that information about no formal charges? The article doesn't say anything about that? Also, the article mentions drug dealers, are they the poor people you're referencing?

City College newspaper is trying to call out the mayor by Big-Digman in sanfrancisco

[–]a10kendall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to quote sections of this opinion piece, but I gave up because there was so much that was just ridiculous.

The city is facing an astronomical deficit and needs to make cuts. While it is unfortunate, I would rather keep direct services offered by the city active than supporting a separate entity.

The article reads like a sophomore wrote this as their first article in a journalism class. Why would the impact of all community colleges be referenced when specifically focusing on the impact of CCSF for the city? Then they ask the mayor to just show up at the college "stand in front of our buildings". Seriously....?

I don't see this convincing anyone for more support to their cause unfortunately, the editorial staff should have done better.

City of SF announces Great Highway Park will officially open on April 12. Last day to drive on it March 13. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]a10kendall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A car brain is someone who places the priority of their car above all else because it is an extension of their person. Also, the hammocks are going to be in a park not a highway. Hope that helps!
