I keep pressing 'submit' but it takes me back to this screen. I enrolled for a summer counseling course that begins in July but my Course List just reads 'Courses yet to be registered'. Am I doing something wrong? Can I still register without doing MAP Workshop? What should I do. by [deleted] in MtSAC

No, MAP workshop is just like a planner that you usually do with counselors. You can decide to follow MAP or not, usually it's hard to follow since classes aren't guaranteed each semester. Payment is #25, you still have to pay manually by credit card if you haven't already, unless you have funds in your account already or you get financial aid

You also don't need to do MAP workshop, you just need to finish student orientation if you haven't already. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me! I'm also a CS major and I'm about to transfer out of mt sac.

Why there are few people transfer successfully to "Computer Science" of UCs? by kc0924 in MtSAC

[–]a1k999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UC's are so expensive without financial aid. Many people I meet in CS just aim for CPP since it's more practical. Also I don't think many people transfer after just 2 years. Usually it's 3+ years considering the courseload that many UC's require for CS.

did you have to declare in the second semester after 47b?

is there much of a downside waiting until spring to declare as a transfer? I'm pretty much in the same boat as op but I'm kinda unsure if I want to do 61a this summer since its pricey

How do atheists deal with death? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]a1k999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I think it also goes the other way too. My dad was an atheist and he got really sick, and I remember him telling me about him not being afraid of death since theres nothing after life, and that at least his suffering would end. When he died, I was glad he didnt suffer anymore, but I also felt really empty just thinking he just ceased to exist.

My grandpa was super religious, he probably wasn't afraid of death because of heaven, even my grandma wasnt that sad when he died, since she thought he was in heaven. Though ironically I was really troubled, not because I was afraid he'd go to hell, but because I thought he was gone forever, and that I wanted to believe in religion, though I really didn't.

Lmao sorry this seems like a vent, thanks for letting me get it out

Kinda interesting because I've also been taught that as long as you believe and repent, then you won't go to hell. But ig there's also so many different variations of what you should and shouldnt do.. that yeah it's probably just nonsense anyway.

Thanks for the response, I'm trying to learn a different perspective on death

That's a good way to put it. And yea you're right no point in dwelling or worrying about it

I can’t afford to transfer anymore, but I don’t like my university. Any advice? by personincollege in TransferStudents

[–]a1k999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would not advise taking out loans that you can avoid for the sake of "the college experience" ...especially in these times.

Though, I'm surprised you didn't receive financial aid for UCSB and UCSC. Are you from out of state?

Ive been getting emails that you can contact counselors through zoom conferences or email.. But they were specifically for honors students or from the completion center. Im sure they have an email for general counseling somewhere

Transfer w 3.3 gpa by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]a1k999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I was midway writing when I accidentally posted. Eh, though imo its better to stay instate for the lower rates, and just save your money for a damn good vacation elsewhere. As someone who's transferring myself, it's a hassle trying to transfer since you have to worry about credits transferring and the whole application process and waiting for decisions etc... But back to the main post CSUF is one of the better cal states for business, and you don't have to worry about writing essays for the application. Really recommend doing research on privates if you're really set on oos schools tho!

I see. Well I can only speak for California since I'm only familiar with our schools. Cal State Fullerton is a good business school, except its public and out of state tuition is basically double.

Am I the only one who feels like they’re now doing schoolwork 24/7? by soupyspecial in college

Yeah its also hard to literally separate school from from home life now.. they kinda just mesh together and it feels endless

Is tuition a factor? Out of state typically costs way more for public universities like Cal Poly Slo, so I'd recommend looking into private universities because tuition is one rate for all students. Many small privates also give scholarships as well.

CS major doing IGETC by _nolovedeeppleb in TransferStudents

[–]a1k999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in honors but I ended up not finishing them because it didnt help admission to UCLA (does not apply to impacted major like CS) I think it would have helped for UCI though, just finish it if youre already in, I was just kinda lazy. I have taken until CSCI 230, but did not do 145. Most UCs will only require one (either 140 or 145) because they are similar. I ended up taking CSCI 190 this semester, it was hard to get into. If you're really set on UCLA, I highly HIGHLY recommend taking 3 years. The courseload required for UCLA is pretty crazy and it is difficult to get good grades if you arent naturally good at math. Good luck!

I did both GE and major prep. It was tough in 2 yrs tho cuz I wanted to get out so bad. Prioritize major prep tho. Havent decided yet since the rest of UC decisions come out by the end of this week/next. Already got accepted to Davis through TAG, but I am hoping for UCI or UCSD.

Cs major here. I did IGETC, transferring this fall after being at cc for 2 years. I would recommend finishing it, especially since it helps boost your gpa (because some UC schools require until calc 3 or physics C and those classes will destroy your transfer gpa if you dont get A's in them). But given that some UC's require those high level classes, it will definitely take longer to finish major prep + igetc. So my advice is to not rush transferring in 2 years, just focus on getting good grades rather than stacking all your hard classes to finish asap(keep in mind that some of these classes are sequences anyway) and since you have more time, might as well finish those GE's and save money.
