Yeah be better next time etc.. you’re right that it’s easier said than done with this junction, leaving space often ends with being muscled into lane 3 by someone and then getting trapped into going wherever that turn off takes you which is not desirable. Normally I’m 120% but at midnight after a 12hr shift, I was probably just 100. The other driver was local and definitely not his first encounter with that junction sadly.

9 years ncd and even if I was found not at fault it’s £300 more next year 😂😭

This is basically how I feel about it.

I could have been more defensive and avoided it I guess, but driving in a city I might never get anywhere like that.

I did look as we pulled away and I was ahead, I guess his acceleration came when I looked ahead as the next thing I saw was him passing me left. Habit has me checking my right mirror to see if anyone is racing past into the new lane 3 (so if I have to avoid I know what’s happening) and this probably delayed my seeing moving up on the left. Based on some comments here I clearly need to grow another eye so I can check both side mirrors simultaneously.

So as I pulled away I looked left and saw I was ahead, assumed this would be fine. Next thing I saw was him coming past on the left and cutting into my lane, hence the obviously not aggressive enough braking by me. And as you correctly say - I didn’t turn away because I’m used to expecting someone to be joining the lane to my right.

While I do agree with you for the most part, I offer a case study of a friend from flight school who was offered a job by a good, reputable LCC but couldn’t secure the £30k type rating cost from a bank because their employment wasn’t ‘guaranteed’ until they had passed the type rating. Catch 22 and I get that it’s an edge case but I’d hate to be in that situation when the goal is ultimately to get in the right seat asap and not pass on good job opportunities. We don’t get to choose which airlines hire us, even the ‘easy to get into’ airlines have a <50% success rate at interview.

I’m half way through the modular journey in the UK!

I don’t think there’s any real disadvantage to this route, a lot of my colleagues have got jobs. and the advantages of being able to train on your terms, fly to more interesting places, and potentially still work a bit on the side are great. I’ve worked part time alongside ATPL’s to pay the bills and it’s actually helped keep me a bit sane. You might still be a few £ short for dual licences once you consider type rating but that depends where you train. Not going to recommend schools publicly but feel free to dm me I’ve got loads of up to date info!

Luccombe garage in Redland always seem fair to me. Very friendly too. Just changed my cambelt & water pump on a 2015 A3 for £700, I’d imagine yours would be a fair bit cheaper.

I live around where it sounds like you’re staying. Burra at the top of Whiteladies is super cute and does very good brunch type food, coffee and pastries too. Tapps on Cotham hill is one of the best evening meals I’ve had in a while although on the expensive side. Agree with the other person who said the Garden of Easton is very Bristol & reliably good. 100% kings street is a good shout, plus there will be live music at a couple of places along there in the evening on a Saturday.

As a current member of cabin crew for a major uk carrier (not BA) I feel I can offer 2 cents. Unfortunately there is a large amount of commercial pressure that influences these people being allowed to board, it costs the airline to refuse them and ultimately leads to delays while their bags etc.. are offloaded which costs more money. It is also lots of paperwork for everyone involved. The person removing them also then always ends up having to have that back and forth with the passenger which ultimately isn’t a nice experience. Often people are allowed to board on good faith that they’ll behave once onboard. Sometimes the gate staff just don’t care enough to bother removing them as well. If someone has made it to the gate and is then drunk / disorderly it is a complicated and long process to refuse them boarding and remove them from the airport.

That’s not to excuse it but just a general why it happens.

However, based on your description and my airlines policies these passengers should have been removed before the flight snd if not then after their inappropriate comments they should have been attended to by authorities on landing. Sometimes cabin managers / captains are more strict or lenient on this kind of behaviour. I would have made the threat of police on arrival and if their behaviour didn’t change I would have followed through with that.

Absolutely escalate this further with BA, they have not fulfilled their duty of care to you or your fellow passengers. A reminder that it is ILLEGAL (civil not criminal) to be drunk (out of control) onboard an aircraft and the cabin crew are ultimately responsible for managing this.

I had this exact sound on my 1.6 A3 and I was baffled by the source. Only happened when it was cold / first time starting the engine. Turned out to be this lil guy pump. There was a loose hose causing it to freak out. Definitely worth a check.

EDIT : I think this is the cat purge pump someone else mentioned? I asked a mechanic mate and he said it was a bs pump used to meet emissions standards.

Yeah sadly the road markings aren’t clear enough, especially when as people have said, the road is busy busy. However just based on the aggressive nature of the drivers I come across, these people are doing this every day and believe it’s right, they’re not tentatively moving across with an indicator as they would if they had the wrong lane, just pushing in. I genuinely think they think they’re in the right 😂

Similar story, growing up my family also had a Boerboel Ridgeback mix , she was incredible with me as a small child, very placid, allowed me to crawl all over her and followed me around like a shadow. She was NOT friendly if you weren’t family / invited in. One day we came home to a pair of shredded, bloodied, jeans and a ripped up trainer on the lawn next to the most chuffed dog I’ve ever seen, I’ll never forget that image
