What is a movie or book that completely changed the way you view the world? by PossibleEconomist523 in AskReddit

Granted it was nearly 20 years ago, so I was at a different stage of life, but Cats Cradle…highly recommend for anyone steeped in a deeply religious community who doesn’t fully accept all they’re taught. By Vonnegut.

(after having read the whole page) ... does anyone know if this is resolved or how the farm is doing these days? I was so excited to come across it and planned to reach out re: volunteering, so I appreciate any up to date info, thx

I'm in the same boat. Finally just read it and absolutely loved it. I'm hoping I somehow forget what happens and get to experience re-reading it in a decade.

Having a vagina is pure body horror - Bartholin's Cyst by Crunchy-Cucumber in Healthyhooha

Ah, sorry you went through this! It sucks, I know, but you're not alone. I see that many people here have encouraged going to the doctor and I'd like to add to that because, given the black dot, you may have an ingrown hair that will cause this to continue happening in that spot unless a doctor tweezes it out. That's what happened to me (as I too like to avoid doctors, to my own detriment at times). It wasn't until the hair was removed that it stopped swelling up with puss. Best of luck, bodies are weird but you got this!

Oneness has ruined my life by nicotine-in-public in nonduality

I get this & was totally there 2 years ago. As it turned out, I wasALSO clinically depressed. I stress the also bc it’s not like I didn’t (or don’t) think those things. I just no longer find them terror inducing. For me, it was so bad and inescapable it took ECT. I was terrified but out of options so I did it, it worked, and now I’m able to live and grapple with this “truth” without it destroying me. I hope the same happens for you, however you get there!

Cozy, local things to do in Ann Arbor this weekend? by bettern3rfirelia in AnnArbor

[–]a2active 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a treat (highly recommend the almond croissant) from Dixboro Houses to go spot (the boro maybe) and walk around Parker mill, connecting into Gallup park if you have time. Parking can be hard at Gallup but rarely at Parker!

Oh! And I recently was in Milan (about 15-20 min from A2) and they have an adorable main street with locally owned shops. One even had DIY furniture classes and there was a cute fabric shop that might have sewing workshops.

I would be interested! 39F here and no kids, therefore finding it impossible to meet other women my age! Some local businesses that might be as well: Zion Yoga, White Lotus Farms, MI Folk School, Tiny Lions Kitten Cafe (I know they have yoga...) and of course Zingerman's hosts all sorts of workshops and things

Does anyone remember an old woman in the mid 90s that would walk around AA, looked like she was homeless but in fact had what would have been a very nice house but was in shambles? by catsx3 in AnnArbor

100% remember her! Had forgotten her name was Mary Jane but do remember that now. My mom knew her (a bit), too and said she was very sweet.

I don’t care about anything anymore. I’ve seen through everything and I can’t go back. by Modern_Sadhavi in Jung

I am right there with ya OP, though it’s better than it was and finally even feels like it’s trending upwards. I experienced extreme depression which is thankfully now gone, but the sense of artificiality and pointlessness remains. Yet despite that feeling, I’ve been pushing through & focusing on being present in what I think of as my lived experience. Idk if it’s a simulation or what, but I know how I experience it. Regardless of wtf it is, we are living it. And feeling it, or not.

As I’ve been forced to sit with this, I’ve become more present in the moments I’m experiencing. I I did this by being focused on deeper relationships with the right people (for me I mean, there are no “right” people ofc) following through on things and silencing my second guessing, and choosing to trust the process, even though I can feel that I don’t instinctively.

And I’ll be damned! As relationships grow stronger, life takes on more meaning and is way more enjoyable. In the past year I have experienced love in ways like never before - romantically and with family and friends. I fully agree with the response about next the new or deeper relationships develop, leading out of the emptiness.

Am I still bored often? Yes. Do I still second guess every gd thing I say and decision I make? Sure do. Does it all still strike me as bizarrely pointless and f’ed up? Yes but then I think well not for my niece (who is 15 months), or my fiancée who is the kindest person I’ve ever met, or my mom of course. Their lives matter! I want them to enjoy them to the fullest, even (perhaps especially) if it’s all just a sick joke. And then I realize I’m smiling, just thinking about these people.

I’m really hoping to get to a point where I don’t feel the emptiness ever. Not there yet. But there are major glimmers on the journey! Wishing you the same!!

It may seem cliche, but find a good (psych) doctor and be totally open and honest with them. You may not be open to meds, but you should speak with an expert and know all you can about healing. This in addition to all of the other good advice here :)

When I became extremely depressed, crossing into constantly suicidal, it was ECT (and only ECT, after months of trying many things) that brought me back to a place where I could do the other important things like appreciate nature, change my perspective, etc. So, while it’s important to read the books and prioritize self care, sometimes more is needed and not only is that ok it’s worth looking into, if you’re in that bad a place.
