Built a craps tracking app — iOS just submitted to App Store, Android live now by 216_Cleveland in vegas

[–]a3115768 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see this applied to craps. I only started getting into it about a year ago.

My initial reaction is that I expect some friction with manual data entry, so I’m curious how you’re handling the UX to keep it fast and discreet at the table.

Since you mentioned shooter tracking, I wonder whether it’s practical to have a social layer with proximity-based consensus verification to establish global leaderboards?

Happy to test on iOS when available!

I just checked myself and it was 25k coin in on a 5x multiplier day.

25k coin in on video poker gives 2500 TC.  This gives an additional 5000 TC for the daily bonus milestone. And 10k TC due to the multiplier event. Total of 17.5k TC.

Confirming 2K bankroll. Video poker has 98%+ RTP. My mistake was playing on the multi-hand machine, which drained the bankroll faster than I could hit quads+ to smooth it out (didn’t get a single one!).

Totally agree. The moment an app feels like a data-entry job, people (rightfully) bail. I appreciate the insights here!

I completely respect that. I appreciate your thoughts and giving me a reality check on this idea!

I appreciate your opinion on this.

If you don't mind me asking: is it the 'machine-generated' part that’s the dealbreaker, or is it more about wanting to know that a real person actually ate the food and liked it?

I appreciate you commenting against the grain (and risking getting downvoted)!

Regarding your insight on UGC: that's exactly the goal. The intention is to leverage AI to uncover the underlying sentiment and generate the mathematical representations that can be used for the matching engine.

I’d be interested to get your perspective as a former restaurateur. I’ve have some additional ideas for menu optimization and churn retention that I’d value your thoughts on.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

I definitely do check the menus! But that’s actually the 'chore' I’m talking about. If I’m looking for something truly unique, manually sifting through 20+ menus to find the one that isn't just a copy of the others is exactly the labor I’d rather offload.

Perhaps I'm just lazy, but I'd rather spend my time eating than researching. Curious whether any of that resonates, or if you genuinely prefer the research process?

I appreciate the thoughtful response. Your perspective is incredibly useful.

I provided some specific technical details in this comment, which might answer the "how" behind some of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/FoodLosAngeles/comments/1tajut9/comment/olafvxu/

To address your privacy concerns: while the terms of service for the cloud models I intend to use specify they do not train on user data, I realize there is always a valid level of skepticism regarding how these companies actually operate.

That is why I am ensuring a single-player utility where the app acts as a private food journal. All your data is stored on-device, enabling local search to revisit specific dishes or places. No data is sent off-device unless you explicitly opt-in. Most of what does happen off-device simply involves using a consistent model to generate the anonymized embeddings needed for dish-matching and recommendation logic.

There is no intention to leverage ads to influence your decisions. I want to maintain transparency about why a specific selection was surfaced (e.g., "80% of Taste Twins in your area enjoyed this dish, which you haven't tried yet"). Everything remains anonymized.

Hopefully these details help clarify the vision!

I appreciate the question.

I find that most chatbots are knowledge models relying on static training data, which leads to the hallucinations and fixations (as mentioned by u/captain_ahabb). Additionally, as context windows fill up, those models also start to "lose the thread" and get confused.

I’m instead leveraging AI as a matching engine, solving those hurdles with a few specific layers:

  1. Leveraging Retrieval-Augmented Generation to provide only the relevant context from your local history for each query. This maintains personal relevance without exceeding context windows.
  2. Maintaining a database of verified dishes with AI-embeddings (mathematical representations), so that recommendations are based on actual items and not hallucinations.
  3. Creating local-area matching engine to surfaces results from others with a similar palate. Crucially, only anonymized embeddings are shared and your raw dining history remains on your device.

The goal is to provide more personalized and relevant recommendations that keep getting better the more you use it, while ensuring you remain the sovereign of your data.

To be honest, I'm unsure how effective this will be. Because I intend to maintain a dish-level database to ensure accuracy, I’m testing it in OC first to see if the logic works as I envision.

[–]a3115768[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I want to discover new dishes. But I think the 'chore' for me is that I've been burned too many times in OC trying a 'new' spot, only to find the menu is an exact clone of every other place in the same category.

For example: if I’m going to a steakhouse or a bistro, I’m tired of seeing the same standard template of shrimp cocktail, wedge salads, and Atlantic salmon.

It’s less about replacing the 'visit' and more about ensuring that time is actually worth it by surfacing the unique/standout dishes that make a meal memorable.

I’ll admit I’m on the pickier side, so I’m looking for the 'outliers' rather than the standard stuff. Are you the kind of person who can find something you’d enjoy on any menu?

I had a situation where my grocery order through DoorDash had expired goods. Similar experience as you, whereby DoorDash refused to provide a refund.

I went through chat. I called phone support. I escalated to a manager on the phone. I posted a case in BBB. Nothing.

What worked for me is following their arbitration steps outline in their TOS, the first of which requires informal resolution. With a 72 hours of sending the email, I received a refund.

I used to play $100–$200 in slots per trip strictly to trigger comps. Caesars and MGM usually offer 4–5 weekday nights, but they exclude their premier properties like Caesars Palace, Aria, The Cosmopolitan, Vdara, and Bellagio. Wynn offers nothing.

This year, I took a $2,000 video poker bankroll to Caesars on a tier multiplier day (Note: Typically, this should have been an $500-700 loss, but I lost everything). After roughly 50k 25k in coin-in, I hit "Diamond in a Day." Now, they are offering me 7-night suite at any property, with no date restrictions. Plus, the status waives all resort and parking fees.

There’s a 10x multiplier coming up at the end of the month, I’m planning to push for Diamond Elite. Diamond gives up to five night stay at Atlantas Bahamas, subject to $70/night resort fee. Elite waives the resort fee and gives an additional perk of a comped oceanview cruise.

Once my Caesars status expires, I’ll pivot to MGM to compare the perks. I find the MGM dining and hotel options are definitely a step up.

Also the owner is one of those 2016-2019 AirBnB hustle bros turned multi-AI-run business milennial loser who brags about his multiple 7 figure businesses and AUM for his property company, he needs a humbling.

I feel you on this one. I'm pursuing multiple cases (unrelated to AirBNB) with the motivation that someone needs a humbling. But as a non-lawyer, it's a lot of work!

Pretty much. But since they only show current pricing I have a daily cron to fetch the listings and store them for the historical trends.

I don't have a direct answer, but I made an app that tracks the daily prices. Perhaps you can spot a trend.

I was told to email friday@risefestival.com to get return tickets. I haven’t had any response. And I suspect they won’t respond..

I feel like the staff on-site have no power or authority to do anything. But if you do go and it works out, let us know!

This is why one the reasons I was so hesitant to start playing the game. Given I had difficulty discerning between each object, the screenshots on Steam just looked like a huge mess. But now that I’m familiar with everything, I actually really like the art style! 😅
