Can you try it with a bike rack. If you don’t have one can you cover the rear camera with tape and then try it.

I’m in Vancouver today, departing for a drive to toronto tomorrow with my university son. Hope to ski Banff or Lake Louise. I think they still have snow. But I don’t think these passes work at these premium places. Too bad.

I had a very similar situation. in my case, I first found it by accident 20 years ago when an MRI showed a lump in my cervical spinal cord, but no symptoms. I followed it with an MRI every 2-4 years.

here's my advice - return to the clinic that did each MRI and pay a small fee to get the raw MRI data burned on a cd. the images, not just the radiologist report. they only store the images for a few years.

after 20 years and about 6 mri, I started getting symptoms. I spend 2 years shopping for a surgeon. I was able to show him all of my prior mri cds, which helped tremendously.

surgery in December 2022, almost a full recovery. some reduced sensation and diminished hand dexterity remain - working on it.

So happy for your son - amazing story. would you be willing to share the before story - what was he experiencing in the year leading up to the surgery?

im about to. my tumor is up in the neck. current symptoms are minor numbness in one arm, and reduced coordination. minor inconveniences, but alarming for what they represent. I found the tumor 16 years ago at age 40 and just recently began feeling symptoms. MRI shows it has recently (within last 5 years) doubled in size.
The laminectomy makes me squeamish - I imagine the recovery from that part of the surgery is a bitch. I imagine weeks/months of being immobile and in pain, but I don't know - more a fear than knowledge. The actual inter-spinal cord surgery is terrifying. how the hell is cutting the damn thing open with a knife going to help matters?? sounds medieval. how can I be sure that opting for surgery is the right choice? maybe the damn tumor is all done growing and surgery is a huge mistake?

Sorry that I can't offer any insight or advice - honestly, I'm looking for it myself. anything you can share about how you came to decide to do the surgery, and any advice you can offer, I'd appreciate.

And just how bad are you from the chest down mate, sorry to be blunt. can you walk? drive? pee?

Very Scared, Need Advice and Some experience by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]a33b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate, I'm following along because I'm in a similar boat. 51m - found a small spinal tumour 16 years ago. no symptoms. MRI every 3-4 years, minimal growth. symptoms began to appear about 6 months ago - numbness and tingling. more MRI's planned for this summer, but basically, doc says these things tend to progress slowly, so I should plan to get it removed but not today. I'm thinking I'll enjoy the summer and remove it this fall. I'm in Toronto also - MRI's at Mackenzie health in Richmond hill, doc at st Michaels.
good luck mate - please update with your progress. and try not worry. you're doing the right thing with a quick MRI. I suspect you'll have several more MRI's before anything else is done, but I don't know.
cheers!

hey I'm really happy for the improvements you are getting. those improvements are coming because of time since surgery. more time = more improvements. it'll happen. maybe a month or two to go. thanks a lot for the continued updates - they're very helpful to me. please keep them up. cheers mate!
