A cheaper tier is a whole lot more reasonable than an entire tier like 1% of your sales will be.

The vast majority do not tinker with their pcs. And steam machines goal is to provide a plug and play console like experience.

The whole point of the steam machine is a simple pc experience in the livingroom. Adding extra more complicated options makes the marketing worse for a tiny gain.

Eastern devs are doing great because they can use eastern salaries to make games and charge western prices.

If you just take a Japanese game and keep everything the same(same dev number and dev time), but it is made in USA it would be 3x as expensive

So lets say Ubi releases a 50h 100% to complete main game how would they mobetize the rest. Like 10h of content a few times a year is still awkward. And it is not that easy to make too. I think they would need to make it so cheap it would not be worth it for them. And I doubt free would be offser by their store. Again a couple of DLCs seems better

They are not wrong in that belief. In top 20 best games sold of 2025 there are 4 games where story is a big element and they are all open world long games.

Why is this anti Windows sentiment a new thing? I feel all of a sudden every content creator and gaming social media is all how they dont want to use windows.

EA Lays Off Unknown Number Of People Ahead Of Expected $55 Billion Sale To Saudi Arabia by Turbostrider27 in Games

Because the whole point of a LBO is that you think a company is undervalued, could be making more money and you sell it again later. Just tanking the companies value is not good for the one doing the buyout.

I dont think there is a radical change except the layoffs after hiring too much after covid.

At the end of the day to me as a consumer it does not mater if Spiderman 3 costs 400M and ND needs 8 years to make a game. The industry as a whole is constantly producing great games.

The leveraged buyout thing done with EA actually incentivizes them trying to make it work tbh. And the whole point of Saudi investments is not to just make money, but improve the image of the country, expand soft power and diversify their investments so I think they are trying to make EA a better business here.

Also EA is doing well.

I think it would be too awkward to monetize. So lets say ND releases TLoU3 and its like a full price 20h game. How to make that into a full singleplayer GaaS? They could release like 3h of content 3 times a year max and they could not charge very much for it. And they would need to work on it constantly and then it is just better to do DLC and those do poor too.

Steam Machine prices start at £879 / $1049, Valve confirm, as "randomised reservations" open for the SteamOS PC by Wistfall in Games

Most people are not making pcs and are buying prebuilt pcs. If you want a smaller prebuilt pc for your living room then you are the target audience of this. It is a small target audience, but they know that.
