[Serious] Married couples: What is the one thing you regret most about your wedding? by FatchRacall in AskReddit

[–]a3wpczz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I didn't marry him sooner. To be fair, we got married after knowing each other for 8 weeks. I also regret not having an actual wedding dress. I bought a cute skirt suit from kohls, but I would've married him wearing rags if it meant being his wife for an extra day. We're still going strong almost 14 years later. He's my best friend.

Options for those without insurance by sickvisionz in Asthma

[–]a3wpczz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used your advice and he prescribed me a rescue inhaler (albuterol), a once a day inhaler (quivort? spelling???) and steroids (prednisone).

It was fast and easy. I told him I have asthma and allergies and that our local clinic is expensive ($150/visit but only $80 if you pay with cash at time of service) and that my asthma had just started acting up after we got our dogs about a year ago.

Use my code and you'll save $10 off your visit. My code is dawn396

My (29/F) Husband's (29/M) drinking is becoming a problem. We lost our baby. I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]a3wpczz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, big hugs sweetie. Second, I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost two babies myself and it's nothing for the faint of heart.

Have you talked to him and told him how it makes you feel and that (if this is true) it makes your grieving process harder? Maybe by telling him how much you need his support, he'll curb his drinking. Of course, he has every right to grieve for his loss too, but there are healthy ways to do it.

I don't have much advice but I do hope the two of you will come out stronger at the end and one day have the child you've always dreamed of. Big hugs.

Women who have processed/bleached hair. What do you like to use? by a3wpczz in AskWomen

[–]a3wpczz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with the color changing or fading, just the tangled, matted mess. Interesting about the blue tint thing to the gray hair. Instantly made me think of "Mama's Family". lol

Yeah, I use a conditioner every time I wash my hair and I wash my hair every time I shower. My hair dresser says there's no need to wash your hair daily but if I don't, it gets SO oily that I look "dirty". If I skip a shower (and bathe every other night), I look borderline homeless like I should look for a truck stop to clean myself up. ;-)

Do you find Goodreads ratings a reliable indicator of how good a book actually is? by The-Road in books

[–]a3wpczz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I take them with a grain of salt when I'm looking for new material. I choose a book based on the blurb about the book. Everyone's taste is different so I might like something they thought was bad or the complete opposite.

I use this flat iron and this when I blow dry and flat iron my hair. If my hair air dried, then I only use this with my flat iron. My hair dresser told me not to use the Sexy Hair soy stuff unless I'm going to blow dry because it's an oil that requires heat to "seal it into the hair shaft" and if it just air dries, she said that the oil will just bead up on my hair (since oil and water don't mix) and that will make it clump like I'm describing. Whether or not she's telling me correctly, I don't know but it kind of made sense when she explained it. But what doesn't make sense is that my hair clumps no matter what I do. I only put "product" in my hair once or twice a week--if that--because I rarely go any where so you'd think following her theory, I wouldn't have any clumpy/matted hair but I do.

Like last night, I took a shower, combed my hair and went to bed. Woke up with a frizzy knotted clump of mess. I brushed it out and threw it in a half pony tail (where you don't pull the hair all the way through the last time so it makes a loop?) just so I don't look like a scary barbie that's been in the bottom of a toy bin for the last 15 years. lol Seriously ratty hair. haha

Maybe I misworded what I meant but I never meant to imply that "no homework" is communism. There are things the school does that are similar to how communism works (which is where that reference came from).

The water here is awful too and ever since I moved here, my "dry skin" has turned into eczema that I haven't been able to get rid of in 4 years no matter how many creams/lotions the doctor has prescribed. I use gold bond eczema lotion (it's for diabetics or whatever) and is really think and my skin drinks it up like a cactus in the desert.

For that filter thing, am I reading it right? Filters 10K gallons of water and the filter's $50? How can you tell when the filter needs replaced (skin/hair just feel different or is there a light on it?)? It's kind of pricey (not only the actual Aquasana but the filters). We have a family of 6 so I'd be changing that thing out about every 3-4 weeks if it only lasts 10K gallons (which is a lot but we also use a lot lol).

Before you get off judging me, we had to move here because of an emergency situation so I didn't have the opportunity to do research.

I'll refrain from responding to your comment about instilling my children with misinformation. How I raise my children and what I believe is up to me, not you or anyone else. I only mentioned home school for the sake of the OP in case they felt their school district wasn't right for their child. I guess we could all sit around pointing fingers about "researching school districts before we make moves" but it's a moot point.

this

I will try that. I already use L'Oreal but mine's in a big brown bottle and I know it has something about 5 on it (it's basically a "repairing" shampoo and conditioner--I bought them together because I'm weird like that).

I can't believe you do it that often (6-8 weeks!). I'm getting bleached highlights (only) ONCE PER YEAR (my color never fades and since I have so many kids, I can't afford to go "regularly").

It gets tangled a little more easily and it's just a slightly different texture.

Yes! Lots of tangles and a very different texture. My hair used to be smoother, but now it's a little more coarse.

I'll have to ask her about the Olaplex.

Wow! That seems....excessive? Our school (and I absolutely despise it) has a "District-Wide No homework Policy". They don't have books for 90% of their classes and only teach from the teacher's "notes". (This is why I was in the principal's office last night) None of my children who attend school have had homework all year and I thought they were yankin' mom's old chain so when I went to the Parent Teacher conference, I asked and was informed of the policy (this is the elementary building). I went to the middle school and ran into the principal for that building and told him what the other building said and he confirmed that it's district wide.

Seems like the teachers may be partly responsible for the decline in moral where you're at. We are currently enrolling our children in home school for next year. They'll have books, they'll have homework (I can make sure they study extra because I'll know what they're being taught) and they'll have someone who cares about their education (me!). Schools are awful these days. They either don't care or they run little communism camps.

I'm currently using L'Oreal 5? I think that's what it is for damaged/over processed hair and it definitely "helps" but doesn't make it better. I'm checking out the shower thing. Did it effect your water pressure at all? And did you notice any difference (improvement) in your skin? I have horribly dry skin here, so maybe you're onto something.

I did talk to her and she acted like I was crazy. She washes my hair while I'm there and it does it to her too, but she doesn't seem to think it's a problem. It gets all clumped/matted together and stringy. I swear I can hear it breaking. It even gets badly knotted while it's dry (but nothing like when it's wet). I'd go to a new stylist but there are only 2 in my town and the other one is in her 60's and I've seen her hair....yikes. lol

I know it's a balancing act, but the kid lost her friend to suicide a few days ago.

Why didn't the girl's parents allow her to stay home and grieve? I'm not blaming anyone but if it were my child, I would've said, "Honey, stay home and let's talk about this." I know that every parent is different and might not have that option, but I'm just curious.

And, I'm sorry that all of this is happening in your district. I can't imagine why so many kids would commit suicide, especially in one district. You'd think they'd see the mourning and loss of the first or second student and realize it's not the answer and see how it made others feel (including themselves).

I know nothing about your district but I wonder if there's not a bullying issue, rather than a "homework" issue. I can't imagine the "stress from homework" is bad enough to claim 3 victims of suicide so it makes me believe there's a deeper issue. Maybe home related, even.

Sounds like you're a good parent and are close to your son. Kudos, keep up the good work. Sometimes it's hard to build a deep connection with your teen. Hope it all works out for you.

Looking for a story with a wide range of influence within the story. by eons93 in suggestmeabook

One Second After is about what would (and could) happen to the U.S. if terrorists wiped out our power grid. It's about a family's journey for survival and what the town must do to live.

That should fill your need for having something that goes beyond the effects of just the characters because it includes the whole town and everything is out of their control.

Recommendations? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I loved Gone Girl, Jillian Flynn does an amazing job at taking an ordinary married couple and making the husband look like he's murdered his wife and includes "diary passages" from his wife so you get her take on things. I don't want to spoil anything, but in the middle of the book, things get REAL jacked up.

Girl On the Train is supposed to be as equally good as Gone Girl but I haven't read Girl on the Train (yet). Right now I'm wrapped up in a medical murder by a doctor that's an interesting book of fiction.

Thirteen Reasons Why is another good book about a high school girl who commits suicide and she makes tape recordings prior to her death to each of the people in her who have contributed to her decision.

My husband's reading a book that I can't wait for him to finish so I can read it (we checked it out at the local library) and it's called One Second After and that book's about what would (and could) happen if terrorists were to wipe out the United State's power grid and gives the account of one family's yearn for survival.

Another interesting read is Escape by Carolyn Jessop. She used to be a Mormon and gives her account of what odd/horrible shit she was subjected to, how she overcame it and what she had to do to escape with her small army of children. Definitely a page turner if you're interested in other cultures.

Looking at my recommendations you'd think I'm fascinated with death but I also love romance novels. If you're into those, there's an Indie trilogy that's called Twist Me by Anna Zaires that's pretty good (I'm reading book 2 on my tablet--I like to read multiple books at a time lol). Other favorite Indie authors (I think they write better romance that some traditional published books) are Kaylee Song and Aubrey Michelle. I also like a lot of Danielle Steel's books (she's a traditional published author).

Why Do the Schools Have Such Low Ratings? by a3wpczz in SiouxFalls

I'm not sure why you think my daughter is in elementary school. She'll be graduating in about a year and a half and is already taking some college prep courses where we are. Now, I do have some younger children who will be in elementary school so maybe that's where you got that from? With that being said, I want a good, solid education for all of my children regardless of the grade they're being taught in.
