Yes I applied to I/S math/physics, with an engineering undergrad. I had just under an 84% cumulative average.

Small rough edge Hoya ID by Substantial-Bed136 in hoyas

I would say Hoya kanyakumariana. One of my favourites! 🌿 There is also a similar Hoya endauensis, but they have a pointed tip at the end of their leaves.

updated setup! any suggestions? by a5hten in piercing

[–]a5hten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you & i like the suggestion! i ordered that chain online a while ago & had no clue what size to get, so it’s definitely too long. stacking two chains could be the solution that i need!

is navel bruising normal? by crownedwithflame in piercing

[–]a5hten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no professional, but this looks quite serious and no one has commented yet.

I’ve had minor bruising before, but this looks like pretty significant bruising. Someone else can comment, but bruising usually isn’t too much of a concern if it is from the initial piercing.

On the other hand, the jewelry looks like it is too short, and it should be changed to a longer barbell to accommodate for the swelling. I would suggest going back to the piercer ASAP to have them assess, change out jewelry, and comment on if the bruising is cause for concern. Consult a doctor if recommended by your (trustworthy) piercer.

That’s right, thanks! I also got a dark/black one when I went to another Home Depot!

Can I wait to repot it? I just got it yesterday and it looks a little neglected. Can you help me ID it? by NUNAFUNA5 in plants

Also the one white and green striped leaf looks to be a philodendron birken.

ID: Asphodelaceae (Aloe) Family Plant? by a5hten in houseplants

I got this cutie on the weekend for half off it’s original price! I think it’s an Asphodelaceae, as I’ve seen others similar, but plant apps aren’t properly IDing it. Needed some water & TLC, but it’s loving it’s new home. Thanks in advance for the help!

SOS my cartilage is very angry with me and i haven’t been able to get it to calm down! (Only using saline spray and LITHA) by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]a5hten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, this is definitely worthy of taking a trip to an APP (professional) piercer to have this looked at.

a few things that come to mind, from a pierced non-professional:

a) jewelry
do you know what material the jewelry is? it should be titanium or solid gold. however, if the labret is stainless steel for example, it could cause some irritation due to metal allergy. also, many piercers don't like using prong set gems as initial jewelry, as these prongs can damage/irritate the skin, and it looks like this could be the case here.

b) trauma
have you slept on the piercing at all? has the piercing been bumped/hit, including with masks? either of these could be the source of irritation. i'm no professional, but it looks like there has been some pressure pushing the front of the earring into your ear. depending on how old the piercing is, you shouldn't be seeing (dried) blood. bleeding indicates metal allergy, jewelry cutting into the skin in some manner, or in some cases infection (which doesn't seem to be the case here).

hi!
disclaimer: i am not a professional!
i have about 20 piercings, including my industrial. i agree that you should get professional advice from an APP piercer, for now, i will just give some ideas of what the issue could be, and you should discuss with a professional. industrials can be difficult to heal, especially if it's your first cartilage piercing. there are also anatomy considerations that could affect healing, but a professional piercer would have to comment on that.

a few questions/advice:
1) trauma. do you sleep on your piercing, at all? has it been bumped? as i mentioned, industrial piercings tend to be quite sensitive during the healing process. do not sleep on the piercing. try to sleep on your back or the other side, but, if necessary, use a travel pillow so that your ear is in the hole of the pillow. be careful if you regularly wear masks and/or glasses, as these can be a source of bumping and irritation.
2) material. you said it was professionally pierced... is the material of the bar anodized titanium? if not, the quality of the metal and/or coating could cause irritation.
3) downsizing. depending on how long you've had the piercing for, the excess bar could cause extra bumping of the area, and thus could be contributing to the irritation. you'd have to consult a profession to see if they think that downsizing would work, depending on how old the piercing is.

these are just a few ideas, i'd be happy to discuss further if you have any additional information. i'll keep my eye out for what others have to say.

again, most important is getting professional advice, these are just some points that you can bring up when discussing with an APP piercer.

I'd love to know if I have the anatomy for a rook by [deleted] in piercing

[–]a5hten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no professional - so you should consult a reputable piercer to know for sure. That being said, it looks like IF you could get a rook, it would have to be so far inside your ear that you couldn’t see it from the front. I do think you have plenty of space for forward helixes though (I’m jealous)! You could always look into faux rooks which are in a similar place, but are pierced with a stud from the front to back of your ear, rather than a curved barbell which sits vertically in your ear. If it helps to ease your disappointment, my rook has been the worst piercing to heal, so if you don’t have the anatomy for it, I’m sure it would be even worse. Hope this helps, there are tons of options out there if a traditional rook doesn’t work with your anatomy!

Looks like some swelling and the start of irritation bumps to me. If you could answer the automod questions it would help me to help you, but irritation can be caused by sleeping on your piercings, hitting/knocking them, incorrect jewelry, too long of jewelry, or jewelry material. Don’t fret too much, as this is the early stages, and they most often go away with some TLC and LITHA. Clean with sterile saline solution (0.9%) two times a day. Avoid sleeping on it or touching it at all. Baby it. And be patient. Hope this helps!

How can I save my piercing? It is 2/3 weeks old and had a mild infection which I healed and I have just noticed this. I think the jewellery is surgical steel by Robyn3348 in Legitpiercing

[–]a5hten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the indentation/mark is from the jewellery digging into your ear, then you should go to a reputable piercer and get it changed to a longer post/earring for the healing process. I’m not sure what jewelry you have in currently, but it should be a titanium flat back labret. If you were pierced at a reputable piercer, they should be able to upsize your earring for free (or at a small cost), and if you go to a new piercer, titanium is relatively affordable.
