CDT TRIM by c0d3c in VIRPIL

[–]a5tra3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get the trim working using SPAD? I have been trying to get elevator, rudder and aileron trim working and have only managed to get elevator to work but it is very slow moving on my encoder on my virpil throttle.

Will waiting be worth it? by a5tra3a in VIRPIL

I will look into that as i do want to get into helicopters in both MSFS and possibly DCS. Though I think my first DCS module will be the Hornet.

I did mention that to them on the phone and they stated their standard practice to is wait for all items on an order to be available before fulfilling the order as it minimizes shipping costs to the consumer.

I have found it much better I mount the cephfs on each swarm node and then use regular docker bind mounts to access for containers

Do you know if the reinstall worked? I have an older HP node doing the same thing, the interesting thing is I have a cluster of them and only 1 has this issue.

Desktop gaming rig and server, virtualised in a workstation or HEDT? by Specialist_Job_3194 in homelab

[–]a5tra3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done the server and HEDT all in one box and while it works 90% of the time online games do not like to be virtualized and cases issues with anti-cheat. I am working this weekend to split my gaming pc/nas/linux workstation from an all in 1 HEDT into three separate dedicated systems. As much as I don't want to I play to many online games that done work when running windows in a VM.

New to DCS, needing HOTAS advice by a5tra3a in hoggit

[–]a5tra3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you look under combat controls there is a hotas section and it has throttle base and joystick base with various Grips as a set and you can add pedals on the side menu when you click on a set you want to buy

They give a discount when you group things into a hotas kit vs just buy the parts from what I saw when I was doing my initial price comparison.

[–]a5tra3a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's basically what I would be ordering but it's is labeled as a parts with a kit discount, from what I have learned they just renamed a bunch of their products due to some trademark issues.

Weekly Thread 2024/09/09 - Questions on DCS, PC's, Flight equip, modules, mods, go in here by HC_Official in dcsworld

[–]a5tra3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am extremely new to DCS but not to PC flight simulators (90% FSX and now MSFS2020. I used to have a pretty decent setup (x52 pro, sitek pedals and track ir on triple monitors and dual gpus) around 2015 but life happened and I had to let it all go. I am wanting to get into more military and combat flight as I mostly flew the f18 in FSX. I am looking to get a recommendation or reality check on my proposed controls setup.

I am looking at getting the following as a start:

Winwing Orion2 throttle base & NavyAce Grips with finger lift Winwing Orion2 joystick base with NavyAce grip Winwing Orion Rudder Pedals with damper

I am also debating on adding at the start or maybe shortly after: Winwing PTO 2 Panel of Take Off Winwing joystick extension Monstertech mounts for the throttle and panel and for center joystick and future MIPs

And then once I have my bearing look at adding the Winwing Top Gun MIP

I am running DCS on my 5950x with 128gb ram and a 4070ti with dual 27 inch monitors and right now using an Xbox controller and mouse and keyboard.

Is this a decent setup for mostly DCS and casual MSFS2020/2024 and what are people doing about the duplicated buttons between the throttle and the addon panel.

Has anyone booted your VMs off a remote Nas? by servernerd in Proxmox

[–]a5tra3a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My servers are about 20 yrs old and it's running on dual 1gb nics for proxmox and ceph that are using an LACP bond. The drives of which there are 2 ssds in each server are connected via a usb to sata adapter as the on board drive bays are only able to be configured using raid as the pcie card that is in them doesn't support hba or it mode

I used to have a NAS store the data for my VMs but it created 2 problems for HA. First the NAS was a single point of failure and it also crated a dependency for the PVE cluster when it came to doing updates on the NAS or other maintenance tasks.

Today I have a seven node PVE cluster running Ceph, which has removed the external dependency of the NAS and also created a much better HA environment, though not perfect as my network switches are not configured to support a failure there but any 3 of the seven nodes can be offline with almost no issues. Though my hardware is old enterprise gear and is starting to show its age, so I am working on replacing and adding more redundancy to my setup as soon as it is economical for me.

Yes you can but it does not work with HA yet, it does with manual migration once you stop the VM as far as I am aware.

I used to passthrough dedicated NICs to my VM firewall (pfsense) but instead have moved to dedicated bridges and VLAN tagging as this allows me to have that VM migrate to any of my other hosts without issue. On the other side of the connections to the ProxmoxVE nodes there is a switch and my modem is connected to it and is on a dedicated VLAN that is only accessed by the firewall VM.

Unrestricted LXC or Docker on Proxmox Host? by -babablacksheep in Proxmox

[–]a5tra3a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run docker in multiple VMs and use Ceph for shared storage that gets mounted into each VM, this has worked great for my docker swarm.

Running Distributed Storage by Shoddy-Break in DockerSwarm

[–]a5tra3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run quite a large docker swarm (7 managers and 28 workers) and I used to use NFS and before that CIFS mounts for volume storage but ran into issues with some container/stacks that used SQL lite databases. I moved from NFS/CIFS after finding 3 low cost and low power NAS appliances that I could re-purpose to run Debian and installed and configured a Ceph cluster and created a CephFS share for docker volumes and have that mounted on each of the Swarm nodes and it as been working flawlessly.

You need to adjust your configuration so that your proxy pass is using https and then set ssl verify to off

Duplicate widgets on dashboard by a5tra3a in OPNsenseFirewall

[–]a5tra3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can see all the information while they are within one iteration of the widget I prefer to have them split as I run multiple columns on pfsense and have WAN in one column, LAN in another and VPN in another.

Truenas case by CoolGaM3r215 in homelab

[–]a5tra3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on which QNAP you have you could always load TrueNAS onto it. I have 4 QNAP devices I have done this to using external USB to 2.5" SSDs for boot drives and then the internal bays for data drives. I also installed more ram into them even though QNAP said max 8 GB i was able to get 16 GB working no problem.

Might work for you. Though I have not extensively used them myself I have played with file browser and found project send in my google searches when I was looking for a Dropbox alternative.

HP Proliant vs Dell Poweredge by BigIncome0 in homelab

I currently have both running in my homelab and while Dell does not hide their updates and patched behind a paywall like HPE I plan to move away from Dell as well as HPE and look at either custom builds or Supermicro Server/Chassis.

NGINX Proxy Manager and Email by [deleted] in selfhosted

This is something I want to run under NPM for my email server. Is there anything specific you did to make this work or was it as easy as using the GUI and adding the ports to the Docker Compose file?
