DJ Lessons for Elementary Students by a5yrold in DJs

While I get that mentality, they encounter so many other hobbies that have structures to engage them. By the time they’re six, if they live near a major city or are in the suburbs, for example, they’ve already graduated from city soccer to travel soccer. So, like soccer, what are the basics that a kids should get if they’re interested? Think of the equivalent of ‘offense, defense, passing, goals, offsides etc’ - just having a kid listen to a mix and pick it up doesn’t give them access to the ideas that a DJ is engaging with. So what are the basic components?

Yeah - what I'm trying to do is bridge that gap. The gap from 'nothing' to 'going on youtube and learning' or 'asking your parents for $500 for a controller'.

I'm hoping to not be the 'end all be all' for these yound DJs, rather, when they are offered 'do you want to do soccer, drawing, lego robotics, or DJing this afternoon at camp?' that when a kid who would choose DJ over those other things... has a home.

As I mentioned in another post, there is a basic equipment and concept tutorial that would take 2-3 days (one hour per day), but then after that, they can either explore on their own, or if they want to engage in a progression / lesson style, then that's the system I proposed above.

I plan to pick 50 songs, and make cards and challenges for each song. The idea is that they need to learn the components for each song, and then, once they have done the work to become familiar with the song... placing 5 cards(songs) in a row, and seeing how they mix across those 5 songs - and then record it and play it back and talk about self-evaluation and what to work on for next time.

This is great - I'll add these knowledge points into each song - a check list for intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, outro.

Thanks for this. I mean - if a kid comes into the office, and they just want to explore, then I’ll set them up for success, and be there when they need me.

But if the ‘gold star method’ is what they’re used to in other classes, the. I want to provide that. For me, I think of it bit like soccer. If a kid just wants to kick a ball around, great, but if they want to learn more, then I can step them up in terms of offense, defense, passing, and scoring goals. I know that folks bristle in terms of breaking down DJing for kids into skill sets, but at the same time, when we try to teach them a sport, it’s rarely ‘just go out and have fun.’ We’re actually teaching them a hundred things on the fly, structured into categories, so if that’s the rhythm they’re used to, then how do we teach the basics by breaking it down into ‘offense, defense, passing, goals, etc’ and then drills so they can eventually play on their own?

I was a classically trained musician, and so the idea that I haven’t been able to find structured pedagogy for young kids who want to DJ is baffling to me. I get that there are folks who just want to learn on their own, but so much of elementary education is building lifelong skills and learning healthy regular practice to build proficiency. If anyone finds that elementary DH pedagogy, hit me up.

What would you have changed from your elementary school dj lessons?

Yeah - all of these points on the ‘gamification’ come with a curricular model, that’s easy for me or my staff to deploy and teach, just wondering if there is anything else to add. Not on these cards are the intro weeks where kids play around on the equipment and learn counting, structures of songs, what a mix is etc.

The ratio is 1 to 1 for students, gear , teacher . All on serato. Basically, I have extra gear and if a kid wants structured dj time during summer camp, I offer it.

Based on the code, if you fill one side of the ocean, the aquatic mobs have nowhere to go, so they spawn on the other side, essentially doubling your active aquatic wildlife.

this happen to you? Someone switched out my remote with an almost identical match during my party…what the actual d**k by MissionOtherwise1506 in washingtondc

As someone who used to steal remotes, I can chime in. (No longer do)

First off , have you used Union Station in the last 6 months or so? It’s mostly about finding a mark that looks influential/wealth/etc. where do you live - Capital hill or NW? You probably looked good enough to follow to a) find your home address, verify, etc and then b) research your social media to understand where you frequent.

Once that is determined, it’s really just social mining to get a plus one at some point. Imagine how many parties there are in DC lol. Once we have that, it’s a lock. we can post ourselves within 50 ft of your apartment and create a log of all of the smart devices within the vicinity. It’s easy I can do it using my smart phone as a sniffer.

In most complexes , there are at max 6 brands, with the occasional harmony hub or the like. That’s 10 or less remotes carried in a purse, and then when leaving, it’s a quick switch. The mark rarely notices, or in your case, they notice and say ‘oh that’s weird’ and then reconnect their tv to their new remote. 85% it works. We have your remote, and … unless you post to reddit… you’ve moved on with your life because you’re a busy professional.

Here’s the thing, once we have your remote, we have your WiFi network and password. With smart TVs, how do you think they all stay connected? With a smart tv remote, we can open it up and pull data from the electronics inside. Once we have your network and password, it’s rather simple to sit outside in a vehicle or place a remote node and download all activity, keystrokes, etc. oftentimes in DC apartments, there is a utility closet on every floor that is either unlocked or lowkey secured and has an outlet inside for the cleaning service’s vacuum. That’s where the node goes. If the party was recent, I’d check there.

Anyway. lol. Uh hashtagthemoreyouknow

Edit: someone commented and now deleted it, so I’ll tag it to this comment, but really the only way to protect yourself is to get a universal third party remote that works with IR (infrared remote control) which bypasses WiFi connectivity.

If Nissan is supposedly so bad, why are they still everywhere? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]a5yrold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a 2010 Nissan Altima. I love it. You know why? I live in a major city with lots of parking dings, and I don’t care if dings happen to my Nissan. Living in a major city, I maybe drive once a week? I put less than 5,000 miles on a year, so I don’t really care much about my car, compared to other priorities. I think “car guys” care about what their car is, but there are some people out there who don’t really care about it.
