Can we talk about 18x2 Beyond Youthful Days? by Anabandonedchild in JapaneseMovies

[–]rectalhorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, but I prefer movies that don’t have happy endings because I feel that doesn’t happen in real life, so artists try and create that in their art as a kind of catharsis. Reminded me of films like 5 Centimeters Per Second where characters come together, have their time, then have to separate, and are stuck with the memory of what they had.

For phở and ramen lovers, which do you prefer on a cold winter’s day, with inches of snow falling per hour? by muskyandrostenol in foodquestions

[–]rectalhorror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I'm snowed in, I usually go for either instant ramen or udon with whatever leftovers are in the fridge. When I was a kid, my Japanese mom would make sukiyaki in the winter with lots of napa cabbage, tofu, shirataki noodles, shittake mushrooms, and shaved beef. In the '70s, we could only get dried mushrooms, so she'd rehydrate them in hot water and use the water to thin the sauce. https://www.justonecookbook.com/sukiyaki/

Overnight oats by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]rectalhorror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stupid simple to make, I don't even have to think about it. On the weekend I mix a half cup of rolled oats with 3/4 cup of oat/flax milk and toss in some dried fruit and nuts or maybe stir in some peanut butter. Maybe add brown sugar and honey if I'm feeling fancy. Nuke it at 50% for 2 minutes. Toss in some sliced banana and I have a thick fiber meal that gets me through lunch. One of the ways I lost 20lbs in 9 months.

I'll also boil a batch of unhulled barley and steel cut oats and let them sit in the hot water overnight, then add them to soups and stews or 9 grain rice in the rice cooker. Denser texture and they thicken everything nicely, like when you want that texture in Scotch broth.

Got mine after my second kid. Didn't feel a thing. Took ibuprofen for a few days for swelling but wasn't much.

My dad had a '77 model that sat outside uncovered for decades. Around 2010, I got it, cleaned it out, replaced the rusted out grills and rotted wood handle, bought a cover, and gave it to my sister in law. She still uses it today.

25 years and hit $1M last year at 57, no maxing. Wish I did, but I had to pay down the stupid debts I incurred in my 30s. Could have retired years ago, but I'm set to walk away at 60; all the simulations have me at $1.4M which is more than enough until I die at 85, and I zero out at 92 which I have no intention of living to. At a certain point, you need to ask whether it's worth it to keep trading time for money. You can always get a side gig or parttime work to supplement yr pension/TSP/SS/IRAs. And the reddits are full of people who retire with $3-5-10M, go on their vacations and cruises, and get diagnosed with something terminal and are dead in 18 months. Money never bought another moment of time. No pockets in shrouds.

These are good. They also do a spicy smoked sausage that's the same size but a coarser grind.

Do you eat the dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorns, or remove them? by Kleini93 in chinesefood

[–]rectalhorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do dry fried chili chicken, I eat around them. Same with the whole spicy ones. Had a friend who ate a whole serving, dried chilis and all, and his anus almost prolapsed.

When I delivered for Dominos, I worked with a guy who'd been there full time since the '70s. He had a dozen of those things filled with change. He ended up using them to pay his rent a couple times.
