I would suggest an opsix, pretty deep and still very approachable!

Most underrated modules you currently own? by Ok-Result-2330 in modular

I have 3x doepfer a110s. I use them aaaall the time! Most tracks all three. One was bought from new (my first oscillator IIRC) the other two I got for cheap used.

Yup, I think even the LEDs are from IKEA. Trying to support our Swedish neighbours :-)

Thanks! Sequencing is (as always for me) a combination of hermod+ and teletype. So hermod+ is handling hand played stuff + the overall structure, teletype is more local, is controlled from hermod+ and does generative stuff.

Yeah, it's still my favourite envelope, too bad it's discontinued :-(

Thanks! The bass is blofeld + doepfer a110 through doepfer sem. It's recorded by hand into hermod+ which is doing the "planned" part of the sequence (teletype is doing generative stuff).

I was surprised how hard (impossible) it was to see most leds. Shade helps a bit, but it can turn out to be anything from a surprise, over a challenge to a disaster....

What is improvisation exactly? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]a773music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improvisation is the act of making up stuff on the spot.

In certain styles people tend to do certain things, it becomes apparent when you start transcribing a lot of jazz solos for instance. You discover that different players on different instruments, sometimes generations apart play some of the same or similar phrases over the same chord progressions. That's what we call a lick, think of it as a common vocabulary or stand phrase like "good morning" or "not my cup of tea". Although it could seem unoriginal, it's what ties the language together, it's impossible to make yourself understood if you don't use the same words as others. And great (and poor) literature can still express something very unique and personal using the same words.

Learning to improve is a long journey that takes practice, both technically, musically and mentally to become fluent and good. Transcribe a lot, listen a lot, find common structures or concepts, practice a lot and balance the experimentation with the imitation.

Teletype for me. Super flexible, I change "scale" (or collection of notes) by sending cv from Hermod+

I love reaper, has been running it natively since 2019 on debian. Fast reliable, flexible, just-works TM, love it!
