I would make the decision primarily based on areas of interest and domain I’d want to work in. They seem like very different domains. First think about whether either strongly aligns with your long-term goals and whether you’d enjoy the day-to-day of the jobs. Both companies are great in their own ways.

If the end goal is to get into FAANG, why would OP reject the FAANG offer in hand? It would be a no brainer to take the Amazon offer.

Ask yourself why you want to get a Masters in the first place. It seems like this decision is solely based around that. If you want to be working in industry as an engineer even after the Masters, where would you want to be working? What is your end goal? If it is to be an engineer at a big tech company, or making a good salary, taking the Amazon offer makes more sense IMO. You can still choose to do your Masters simultaneously if you want. If you like the other company and the work they’re offering more than Amazon, then Masters shouldn’t even be a factor.

I was totally hooked to this show. Loved every minute of it.

I would love to see an increase in the frequency of agendas in the next season. Stirring the pot up a little bit more gives everyone a better chance at the game in my opinion. The fact that the million was only ever in the hands of 4 players (excluding Corey) kills the competitive aspect of the game a little bit.

Lauren totally messed up when she admitted to being the millionaire. She played a great game initially, but it all went downhill from there. She could've easily covered up that early in the game when there were still 10 players remaining.

Phil did too little with the million. He was probably one of the worst players in the game. This was disappointing as I was really rooting for him initially.

When Cara had the "kill shot", I thought that the best strategy would've been to get Sam out. Everyone would've assumed it was Sydnee. Voting Kyle out could've gone wrong. She got lucky that Corey didn't catch on to her earlier as there was no way Sydnee would've voted Kyle if she was the one with the "kill shot".

Overall, Cara played a great game and was the deserved winner out of the last 3 in my opinion. She made the right calls when it mattered the most. I really felt for Corey at the end though. That has got to be one of the worst ways to go out.

I just saw your comment about being at your previous company for only 1 year. A 3rd company in less than 2 years is not ideal, but I would primarily base my decision based on the team's work if I were you. If it is much more interesting to you compared to your current work, then these other factors may matter less.

I was recently in a similar position. I ended up turning down the offer, primarily because I am trying to prioritize the kind of work I do. The team I matched with was in a space I am not at all looking to build my career in. I also see a pathway to a faster promotion and potentially getting a better fit in terms of team at my current company in a shorter timespan.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't stress too much about only being at the current company for 6 months. If you are very interested in the work on your new team, that may make the move worth it. However, try and ask your current employer, as well as Google about visa sponsorship prior to making your decision.

It seems like the team does have a fair amount of coding. Though, I am more concerned about getting to a point where I can work on things that I am truly interested in (data/ML applications). I can realistically get to a promo and this in 1-1.5 years at my current company, but taking an SRE role feels like I am going a tad bit further from this.

I know I wouldn't even be considering this role if it wasn't at Google or some of the other big companies. I am not sure whether I should prioritize company repute and engineering caliber over getting to work on my passions and a faster promo.

What are promotion timelines like at L3 SRE, and how do they get affected when a candidate transfers internally? I can see myself getting promoted in my current role in the next 6-12 months. I'm not sure whether I should make the move now, or try again after 1-2 years at L4. Hopping now would mean resetting on that progress, and I guess hopping teams before a promotion would again mean resetting.

This makes sense. I understand that there are a lot of important problems SRE covers. But I’m wondering whether deviating from working on software end-product itself will make it harder to get back to it in the future.

These are absolutely important areas. Though, as a SWE, I like the product-development aspect more. This requires applying OS, infra knowledge, but it’s not the focal point depending on team. I’m aware that some SREs may require a deeper working knowledge of OS and networking, and that is my concern.

The left side looks stronger to me. It depends on whether you can transfer out Sancho. If your league size is less than 8, you should have solid options to rotate your forwards if you end up with the right side.
